No foxy, they have been banned for a reason!

What about a champions league style knockout, it starts like *as an example* and lasts for 2 hours etc so limits the tourns per day and makes it more of a challenge! (for ranked games)

You are drawn to play UK, 8US, 9 ball
In the round 1 - if you win the random draw kicks in to the next round etc

For example (and i havent worked this out before anyone shouts at me)

Round 1 - crazzy v foxy 9 ball 3-1
Round 1 - crazzy v foxy 8UK 1-3
round 1 - crazzy v foxy 8US 1-2

Foxy wins and goes into round 2......... 5-6 *wins much more ranked points as this is over more games and not a fluked 9 ball pot and proves the better player on the games and deserves the rank points*

This would make the overall challenge to win much harder as you have to be proven over a much longer period, if this was done as a tourn you can see how this could last a couple of hours and be worth several points etc and the reward would feel much better as you have beaten many people and been rewarded with points and a decent rank.

This might not sound right now, but i will post a proposed scheme when i have thought about it

Agree with most people about reducing the tournaments to one per hour, also need to get rid of speed tournaments and micro tournaments. I used to love playing in a tournament with over 100 people and winning it was a big acheivement back then but not now, you'll be lucky if 16 enter, pointless.

The peak of this site was between 2006-2009, but i think the reason its gone downhill is the people that played 5 years ago etc have moved on and the site hasn't been advertised enough to bring new players, its just the old players coming back.

Personally i don't think funkypool will ever be as good as it was from 2005 to 2009 when i played alot the site was booming back then. but the damage has already been done i'm afraid.

This tournapoint malarky didn't do the site any favours either as you shouldn't have to play in loads of tournaments to show how good you are in the ranks, it should be separate like it used to beforehand.

As you can tell i could go on all day about the past as i was an oldtimer and i think others will agree it was alot better back then in the time frame i mentioned. RIP 2005-2009

A common phrase which we all heard alot back then and looking back wishing you listened "don't fix what isn't broke"

scrap arcades, scrap micros, keep the tournapoints if you want, keep the tournaments ranked if you want. just bring back the hourly tournaments of us8, uk, and 9 ball

^^^ You forgot the most pointless of all aspects of funkypool...friendly tournaments! I don't think the site will, for me anyway, be as good or as popular as it was during the period nickh87 mentioned up above, but there is certainly plenty that could be done to improve the site in such a way to encourage both older players to return, stay and enjoy the site and newer players to feel the site has sufficient potential and intrigue to bother coming back regularly. When this happens, if ever, is anyone's guess!

Im sure nick will give this his full attention when he comes on Us older members loved funky when it was a much harder to win things! These days it is apparent to win tourns and achieve wins is much easier, it took me years to get in the top ten overall in tourn wins im now going to drop off the list as the new breed of players have won lots in such a short time frame * < 1 year

I think changing things and getting rid of friendly games will help. As spinner pointed out facebook and twitter and the fact we are all getting older may have a difference on how popular this game is.

Rather than being a java linked game can this be changed, i know that if this game can be supported from an i pad then im sure the amount of members would grow

Didn't realize nick was typing at the same time as me. Forget my post, i agree with every thing he said instead. As well as niall, sorry I forgot about the friendly tournaments...I guess that's how little i think of them

As a member that joined originally in 2008 (maybe 2007) i have to completely agree with nickh87... the site was booming in the period before around 2010.. since then it has slightly gone downhill.. there is WAY too many tournaments and the player community has deteriorated as old members have left and there are very few new ones coming in.

sort out the facebook page! theres nothing on there and that is one of the biggest ways of online advertising in this day and age. but I suppose its about finding someone willing to run it. it would help 1000% I believe

people are moaning about newbies well i may have a solution.

Main Tournaments - Newbies are not allowed to enter (link doesn't show unless you lose newbie)
Newbie Tournaments - Only newbies are allowed to enter, (link only shows for newbie) - maybe every 6 hours

This way they get some experience in tournaments without the big guns being frustrated about resetters.

what you think?

Don't see why everyone is making suggestions and what ever else as we have not really been listened to in a few months.

Far easier way is to leave it that anyone can enter any tournaments as they can now but instead of the 'Newbie Reduction' you have it that you cannot lose points to a 'Newbie' account but the 'Newbie' account wins full points for any games won. That way they reach a more accurate ranking in the quickest possible time.

I know for a fact that Nick agreed this was a possibility. Just needs a decision to make the change.

Is it also fair to summarise that from this discussion the main points would be...

1) Reducing the main tournaments back to one per hour (on a 25 hour rotation or 48 hour set schedule)
2) Keeping the Micros but with no TournaPoints (possibly adding another on the half hour?) as this fills the void of being able to play ranked games at the full weighting.

I dont think that anything is going to bring the numbers back to how they were as things move on and people find new things to do. However that doesn't mean changes cant be made to improve things in the eyes of the majority of members.

I think the only thing that has changed over the years are people that are popular on here thinking that they have more control over the rest of us
