Bringing this back up before it becomes inactive because I still think it is an important read
Totally agree! This needs to be spoken about, as if funkypool/snooker went "bye bye" it would just be a tragedy..we have all been blessed by Nicks creeative intelligence to make such a brilliant site, that resembles the real thing so closely!! Advertise advertise ADVERTISE! Get more players on here...site should have over a million active users IMO..its that great of a site and a 1 of a kind at that!

Poor old server struggles enough as it is without millions of people playing at once, few hundred would be nice enough

Agreed about the advertising, I don't care tho to be honest I just think it would be much better reducing the amount of tournaments so they are actually worth winning!

agree here too many tournaments now in my view and one every 2 hours would be enough so you can have a break inbetween tournaments

what we need is a new type (doubles if managable) to freshen the game and make people want to return

Just bringing back this post from a few years back for anyone new(ish) to the issue.

nick said:
Doubles friendlies is not so difficult, where first 2 entering the room form the first pair.

Those who want doubles (everyone, it seems) are you content with doubles friendlies?

Would love to know whether this was explored and if so what the outcome was. If it's too difficult to implement then at least we would all know. But even if it was possible to introduce it just for friendlies where you could select your partner then the new benefits to members would be huge.

Friendly would be fine, until a ranked way could be worked out

I would not mind friendly though as at least you still get win/loss added to profile. I think i seen a while ago about doubles tournament - i think that would be hard to implement wouldnt it.

Agreed with these top 2 paragraphs you stated LondonGuy.

I want them to bring back funkypool how it was about 5 years ago that's when it was at its best!

Seriously, 5 years ago you would have like 90 entrants for a tournament and ranking system was way better too.

My excuse for not entering that much tournaments anymore would def be because of this. The more entrants the better but with all these tourneys youll be lucky to probably get about 20 entrants which is boring!

alot of the players from about 5+ years ago , probably wouldnt even come back now, too much going i think.
strip it back basics , i never see any one playing killer, straight or any of the arcade games. admitidly this face lift does look alot better but doesnt improve game play. the moment things changed with the games things went wrong. if its not broke dont fix it. along with rank deduction. people are happy to sit at there adept status or even professional.
even maybe have it so once you get to the 820 mark the reduction starts??
US billiards, straight , mini golf id have rid of. waste of time. no one plays them.

people will agrue with this but i was here when the site was it its best and now i log on maybe 2/3 times a year. its not funkypool anymore

Couple of things:
-Straight and killer are played quite frequently by a lot of players (particularly top players).

-"If it's not broke, don't fix it." We can sit here all day spraying out random sayings. How about: "You can't move forward if you're standing still." Deep.....

-Rank reduction: As far as I know, rank reduction goes all the way down to 750. I know that I used to be in the 800's and haven't played ranked in 8US and 8UK in probably 2 years. I'm now at 766 and 771.

never see anyone play them.... top players by what rank? sorry but that means sqwat to me,,

the sites move forward fantastic great, incase you hadn't noticed since the changes no one plays...the site was it best before the changes!!

player calibur is is no way near as good as it used to be. back when it was "old school" winning a tournament meant something. and the way they are set out now is crazy, no wonder no one hardly joins them too many of them at once.

rank deductions should be back to how they was before. ive been in the high 800's my self but stayed at 800 for a long time because i contempt with the professional status. if people want to play ranked let them do so but,i dont see why people should be forced into it because of the daily point deduction...

For example for straight. have a look at the top of the rankings and the various highest runs lists. You'll find pretty much every top player of the site on there, which suggests it is played quite frequently.

Yes, there are too many tourneys. Has nothing to do with player caliber though. But I agree with you on the tourneys.

Just like in every real life ranking system, if you dont play, your ranking drops. The ranks are meant to show who is best these days, so if you dont play, you shouldnt be up there.

Tournaments are bugging me now.

I like them etc don't get me wrong, but 7 an hour is just pathetic, and is completely diluting any ranked games and point system also is making playing rank games a bit pointless.

Last time I looked there was a total of 23 game rooms open and more than half of these were tournaments, 9 ball which is probably the most played or second most played on the site had 0 game rooms open at all and 1 was killer which there are no tournaments in anyway.

Back in the time of 1 tournament per hour there were many more players, a lot more liked the system, the tournaments had more entrants and were therefore a lot more competitive. Rank games were available nearly every time of the day, now you gotta sit waiting for half an hour just to get one.

I don't see the need for tournapoints AND double ranking points in the tournament, either have one or the other, I preferred when tournaments were friendly myself but I like the fact you can win rank joining them. I would suggest maybe swapping the rank system around though so double rank for rank games and normal for the tournament games.

This may entice more players to actually wanna play other than tournaments.

I know it has all been said before, just venting a bit of frustration at the minute at not being able to find a game on a site which before all these changes came in was getting about 200 members on around this time nearly everyday. (only 65 on at the min)

I knew there was a lot but 7 an hour is just ridiculous, this is why it's virtually impossible to find a ranked game against a half decent opponent, or even against anyone most of the time.

1 an hour would be plenty nevermind 7, they would actually be worth entering as well then, never happening tho, more tournaments will probs be added if anything.

Using 12:00 as an example...

12:00
12:15
12:20
12:25
12:30
12:45
12:50

Then it starts again just 10 mins later...

It seems like the majority of members can't get enough of tournaments hence the reason there's so many, surely if most disagreed then they would get rid of some rather than keep adding more.

doubt it as tournapoints/rank are the main focus which in turn focuses on those that play all day (as thats what you would need to do to win a medal usually).

would be nice for just 1 an hour rotating like before, even though the same thing applies, their would be more people playing public games

Is it worth playing all day for a medal tho lol..

If there was only 1 tournament an hour, there would be a lot more entrances in each tournament so you would get a lot more tournapoints and wouldn't need to play all day to win a medal, and whoever wins the medals would actually deserve it.

I remember when i was a lad some tournaments took 2 hours to play as there were near on 100 entrants or more in the 8 and 9pm tournaments, imagine how many tournapoints that would bring, and like you have said it would defeat the object of those that are able to sit and play micros all day to win it (which is what i done to get mine before anyone says anything)
