Its definately a post we have all encountered in our venue on here and i agree fully with whocares , i feel its meant for the sportsman in all of us to show our respect win or lose after the black is in . Also do realize that most the time its said b4 isnt a dig at the opponent its more of a self let down vent saying "crap i sucked that game " lol

So really people on here shouldn't say it after every game, as not every game is a "good game", but people clearly do. Your problem if you let 2 letters affect your gameplay. Just carry on as if nothing has been said then you can be sure to win.

Oh come on, you've never been put off when you were concentrating on something?
Of course one should still win the frame and most of the time we do, but that doesn't change anything about this behavior being very unsportsmanlike (which is what these threads are about)?

The idea of "gg" being somehow bad sportsmanship depending on timing has always been a strange myth that crops up now and then.
The fact is simple, "gg" means "good game".
It is perfctly acceptable to say "gg" at any point if the game is good, indeed, by the end the game may have become a mess and saying "gg" would be inapropriate.
"wp" is another one which some people seem to think is related to the end of a frame. "wp" means well played, therefore it can often be used at the end of a frame but I use it most after a well played shot by my opponent.
Its a simple case of remembering the correct meanings and ignoring "urban myths" - if you're at the table and your opponent says "gg" or "wp" it means you're doing well, so take the compliment and carry on

How can something as small as 'gg' put people off. I often chat and ask my opponent how they are doing and have they had a good day. Even thou i dont always get a reply it is meant as friendly chat. So if 'gg' puts you off then never play me As already said if you find it hard then minimise the chat window (simple) gg and wp to me are always a sign of playing well. Unless someone pm's you then how can this be off putting!

I sometimes say "wp" even when a player has missed, and not as sarcasm, simply because the play previous to the miss was good. It's not uncommon for people to say "gg" before the end of the game, but it is frowned upon by most because it's well known as an attempt to put a player off, even if it's unintentional. It's a trivial matter, and isn't worth all the effort people have put into it on this thread

Nope, doesn't bother me.
It's not unsporting though, you could say half way through that this is a good game, doesn't mean it's over.
I personally never say gg before it's over though (and if it is) due to the fact of too many people with the wrong mind set and would jump on my back because of it.

As much as i find it annoying...I'd rather it be said before game ends...Rather than not at all.

I agree to the above statement.
Its just a matter of sportsmanship. Whether it actually distracts someone or not is a matter of opinion. But "gg" should be said at the end of the game, not when there are still 2 or 3 balls on the table. Its just a matter of courtesy in my opinion.

here is how i see it.
it is good sportsmanship to say it at end of game however as much as we don't like it, their will be always people to say it mid game either to try and put you off or if they feel the game is well and truly over.
only way to possibly to stop people saying gg mid game is block chat which is not what we want but there is the ignore user function for that.

Look, take a good player for instance. Should he really get put off from a simple gg considering he has a simple shot, personally I think he shouldn't. However it is a sign of respect when you wait until the end of the game to say your gg . You also got to think about it like this gg refers to good game , which means when you tell someone gg your basically telling them That was a good game we just played. With that said how does it make sense to say gg before the game is done. Well thats my opinion, but who agrees with me?

When "gg" is entered into the chat box whilst your playing, it does not create a pop up, a noise or even lag to put you off your shot.
A simple text in the chat box (Witch is not what your meant to be looking at whilst playing ) can't possibly put you off as many users chat endlessly during games and there are no problems.
As spinner has stated......... Take it as you are doing well.

The users who chat throughout the game won't mind. it's usually the ones who are silent and then a sudden "gg" comes up.
For me, it is unavoidable to look at the chat box when colorful text pops in (if i could minimize the in-game chat box i would). It still should not put me off and most of the time it doesn't.
But whether it puts me off or not doesn't matter, it's still a lack of respect to talk into other people's shot (as aflumpire said above).
Of course we should still pot them. Ronnie should pot sitters too even if people are yelling all around him and most of the time he would...

It makes sense when you are in the middle of a good game, to say so, as by the end of it it may have turned into a total mess!
The fact is, the idea of "gg" only being "equitite" at the end of a game is a myth that has evolved, and some won't like me saying this, to provide a "you put me off" excuse when they lose.
Lets face it, you are only going to say "gg" is someone is playing well, it would be impolite to say it when you yourself were playing well, so naturally it is said when an opponent is playing well, and if the then mess up, it is an easy target to blame as a distraction.

I don't blame anyone for waiting until the end of a frame to say 'gg', you could just end up opening yourself to a tirade of abuse from certain people who choose to view it as a tactic to put them off.
