Personally, if you are able to put the ball, it should be possible for you to put it whatever is typed by the opponent as it doesn't affect the positions of the balls or pocket. But we're people, not robots, and it's easy to let it affect you. Which then begs the question, if someone is gonna say "gg", why can't they wait till after the black goes down? If the opinion is that saying "gg" before the end of the game is unsporting, then surely it's good manners to wait till it's over? It's not difficult. And anyway, if you playing on a real table and were preparing for a difficult winning shot and the other guy said "Good game, well done" or something like that, wouldn't it just be to add the pressure? Those are my two cents anyway...

It's not necessarily the fact that it is off-putting. It's the fact that it is actually really unsporting and honestly quite pathetic that people will go to any lengths to win on here. If you genuinely think your opponent will make the shot, then why is it difficult to wait before you say gg? Saves the confusion and arguing etc.

Surely if this puts someone off they are taking this game way too seriously and if this is true, why are they not concentrating on the table?

Two letters - No sound, No pm, No flashing lights and it doesn't even make a person or their computer physically jump.

The only way I can see anyone being genuinely put off is if they receive an intentional pm to put them off or if something comes up outside of the site, not a two letter abbreviation.

I have had the early "gg" myself many times and I can easily confirm it doesn't bother me or my game(As if that is any good anyway ).

As for it being Unsporting, it being said at all is a good thing rather than nothing at all.

As the point was made, why say it before the end of the game other than to put the person off. Again I dont like to think that it puts me off what so ever but the intentions of most of the folk that do it are obvious. If you have three balls left and someone is saying good game, how can this be anything other than a ploy!!! To put the boot on the other foot, if it was youre opponent with three balls left all in the open, why would you not say gg. My simple logic would be that you wouldnt want to put the person off.

Anyway you look at this it is utterly bad sportmanship and to say it shouldnt put you off is not really an arguement in my book. not me personally, but the fact is, it does put folk off and certain players know this and try to use it as a tactic and it is wrong!!

As someone said previously, if people feel the need to try to gain a frame win this way then shame on them. If someone wins a frame of me then wd to them full stop.

Everyone has their own opinion, you can't say that if it's off-putting for you it will be for someone else and vice-versa, if it's not off-putting for you, doesn't mean to say it isn't for everyone.

I personally find something about it that puts me off, I don't know exactly why, it's probably the mind set I had. Maybe because the time I did it, when I first joined the site, was against alexander who told me people got banned for it so I had that mindset of it being a bad thing and tends to wind me up a bit

How about automatically disabling chat when someone is on the 8 or 9 Ball?

Then the folk who do it would just start saying it on the last spot/ stripes or the eight ball i reckon.

Because of what it means, which I often think has been lost somewhere along the way. gg means "good game".

It doent mean the game is over, it doesnt mean that WAS a good game, just simple "good game".

It can be a good game at any point, not just the end.

What are you on about no one says good game in the middle of a game. im playing in leagues for years and i ve never heard someone saying good game in the middle of a game it would make no sense to do it. It would only be said to distract a player while shooting.

So you're telling me if someone put something like "lol" or any other word it wouldn't put you off at all yet gg does? If that's the case you have some serious concentration problems and really need to look at your own game.

I'm going to put gg half way though some good games to see the reaction of people on both sites and then instead put a random word, see if they moan about that.

Really bugs me how people blame losing a match because they see 2 letter in the chat window. Yes I totally disagree if they pm at the last shot to put you off, but why not just disable pms while in gameplay? That's not hard surely?

it dont put me off it winds me up ya no u got 5 balls on the table yh there in the open but they say gg like its all over already..... or u get the cocky 1s who say gg wen they are still on the table with a few easy shots left until they miss and then log off lmao so funny.

i think peeps say it out of frustration, all i do is say it bk it seems to wind them up a bit tho

My problem isnt being put off by things. If that happens then I will blame myself, my issue is the intention of the other player.

Thing is, no matter what their intenton may be, and no matter when it is said, 'good game' is a compliment.

I did lose quite a few to people using it twhen the epidemic started and it is a pathetic tactic but you do get used to blanking out the chat window.
The new one's ppl not saying gl at the start and using that at the end as well so they get 2 goes at putting you off. I always wait till the end and reckon everyone should but you just learn to ignore the chat window when you take your shots.

I honestly don't see how someone saying "gg" too early will make you miss...You missed the shot - not them. And putting the blame on someone else only proves that you are the childish one


And saying "gl" is not required. It shows good sportsmanship, but it's not required

Never said it was but obviously if people wait till your 2nd to last shot to say it then wait till you are taking your last shot to say gg then they aren't using it for anything other than to put people off. Which in itself proves that it does affect people, everyone knows it can that's why 90% of people won't do it.
