If someone writes a message such as "gg" or "wp" or anything such as that before a game is over only puts pressure on the opponent to pot the ball/remaining balls and if he so much as fails then the other opponent usually begins to get cocky an laugh

for me im completely against "gg" before the game is over

so therefore every opponent i play i block before the game starts that way i just say "gg" or "wp" when the game is over and i say nothing more

'gg' should 'never' be said during a game..its disrespectful..and 'gs' should not be said when some hits and hopes and flukes a great shot..despite my name i use only skill

Still the perception around that gg means the game is over. It doesn't mean your opponent is going to concede.

We all know urbandictionary.com is authoritative and always has the final truth (), so let's type in "gg" and see what people all over the world think it means: on the first 3 pages (22 results) every mention of "good game" assumes it is said at the end of the game. Such as number 1:

"A polite remark uttered after the end of a round, game, or other measured interval to indicate that a match was fair and enjoyable. Usually uttered collectively by the occupants of a game server. The opposite of bg"

Repeated again and again.

Well, considering the amount of times this topic has come up and the number of responses it receives each time, I would say quite a lot of people care!

I usually say gg before the end of the game if I'm certain there's no way I can win..(say the balls are all on pockets and unless they absolutely scuff horribly it I have no chance) which 99.9% of the time it happens.

I suppose if you don't like it then don't read the chat box until the end of the game, whatever they're saying can't be THAT important that it can't wait 2 seconds until after the game finishes.

but why not just say it after the game if you know that it bothers people?

Pool is the only game that I'd say you should never say 'gg' before the frame is finished. Anyone can win, regardless of whether they have 1 ball or 7 balls on the table.

Personally, I only ever say 'gg' after the winning ball has been potted.

It is astounding how often this comes up as a topic, almost as astounding as the "urban myth" the "gg" has something to do with the end of a frame.

The simple fact is, "gg" stands for "Good Game".

It is completely normal to state such partway through a Good Game , just as it may well be unsuitable to metion it at the end of a simplistic game.

ah, last post from me on this topic (otherwise it never ends as we know lol).
"gg" does stand for good game and is universally known as something said at the end of the game, not just here but on any other game played online. I have no idea why some people see this as an urban myth, it is simply used that way and always has been. If you want to redefine it as something that is said halfway through a game, good luck.
I see no purpose to say it in the middle of a game. If you're playing with a friend and having a conversation, that person won't mind the chat anyway, so no problem there.
If you're playing someone without conversation, then suddenly when it's the opponent's turn you say "gg" (potentially even during an important shot of the frame), you're clearly trying to put him off. You would never do this in real snooker/pool because it is very disrespectful.
The urge to say "gg" can surely be suppressed until the end of the frame when it bothers no one.
