You'd be a mile east from where you started, like mister_raver said.
Edited: Actually, you'd be a mile west of where you started, right?

Well, if you travel 1 mile north, then 1 mile east, then a mile south... you are technically one mile WEST of where you started.
But how can you end up where you'd started?? You'd have traveled in an almost complete square... just missing a side.

Yes, but cloone said you end up back where you started!
I though you might have walked a triangle, so he might have been in Bermuda! (<< that is a joke)
I haven't a clue what the answer is.

Lol John, but you cannot walk a triangle, considering you would have to make complete 180 degree turns (since the directions were said as only "east", for example, not "south east"). If you were to walk at angles, not completely straight lines, then yes, you could walk a triangle.
Thus: I have no idea as to the answer to this question.

You start off at point A.
You walk a mile north.
You walk a mile east. (Or west, it's irrelevant as it turns out. Maybe that's a clue.)
You walk a mile south.
And your new location is.... A. Where you started.

It iswhere you started. You end up back where you started.
Imaging it this way. Imagine the first leg of your journey on a map. Now imaging the third leg, such that they're obviously touching. Now, where in the world could this be possible???!!!!???

no-one (I think). If no-one has, is it the south pole?
18:36 Mon 21 May 07 (BST) [Link]
No, someone will not go until we know if someone got it right.
Answer: the south pole. When you travel east (or west), you're always the same distance from the poles. That's prt of it. The other part of it is that because walking north always leads you straight from the south pole and walking south always leads you straight to it, then moving any distance east or west after walking away from the south pole meant that walking south was still gonna lead you back to it.
It's hothead_bob's go!!!
