What is half of 2+2?

Where will you find roads without cars, forests without trees and cities without houses?

What flies when it's born, lies when it alive, and runs when it's dead?

I build up castles. I tear down mountains. I make some men blind, I help others to see. What am I?

Algebra is a great invention.

t = age of Tut
T = birthyear of Tut
T + t = year of death of Tut

e = age of Eros
E = birthyear of Eros
E + e = year of death of Eros

King Tut died 120 years after King Eros was born:
E + 120 = T + t

Their combined ages when they died was 100 years:
t + e = 100 ....... A

King Eros died in the year 40 B.C. Taking the A.D. years numerically, then the year before A.D. 1 (i.e. 1 B.C) is 0, 2 B.C is -1, 3 B.C. is -2, etc, and 40 B.C. is -39.
E + e = -39 ........ B

Subtract the equations A and B:
t - E = 139
t = E + 139

Go back to this: E + 120 = T + t
E + 120 = T + E + 139
120 = T + 139

T = 19

Tut was born in A.D. 19.

"Gadsby was walking back from a visit down in Branton Hill's manufacturing district on a Saturday night. A busy day's traffic had had its noisy run; and with not many folks in sight, His Honour got along without having to stop to grasp a hand, or talk; for a mayor out of City Hall is a shining mark for any politician. And so, coming to Broadway, a booming bass drum and sounds of singing, told of a small Salvation Army unit carrying on amidst Broadway's night shopping crowds. Gatsby , walking towards that group, saw a youg girl, back toward him, just finishing a long, soulful oration ... "

This is a paragraph taken from "Gadsby". What is wrong with this passage?

It doesn't contain the letter "e". Or the word "the", for that matter. Not so much wrong as unusual. They probably would have banned that sort thing in Catholic Ireland in the 50's!
