I would take Mata (his creation was the only decent thing in the pitch) and Januzaj (he'll be a good prem winger in a year or two, he's not quite there yet).

So you'd rather have Mata and Januzaj instead of Countinho and Sterlinf?

Just asking

No I'd rather have Coutinho and Sterling, but I would have them as well if the space allowed it

chappy that's irrelevant really, Coutinho and Sterling are never going to join United. It's more about which players of the current United squad are players that could be part of a title winning team. Rooney and Mata are players that should be winning titles, (not so much Januzaj, i don't rate him that highly and i think he has to take the test of time before i give a verdict on him) so it's around those two players that you should be building. Fellani is a lumbering idiot when played in a deep Mid position, should be rotated to CAM like he did when he was at Everton, it's why he played so well that season.

United are essentially in the same place that Liverpool were a couple of seasons ago. They had two or three top quality players, and a relatively shallow squad, but lots of expectation. Expectation will always come with Manchester United and rightly so, but unless LVG works magic and gets them playing in a way that works for the whole squad like Brendan Rogers did with Liverpool they aren't going to meet any expectations. I think LVG would be better off working with the squad he has as opposed to throwing money at it, getting 4th/3rd and going from there.

I'd hold off on an opinion of title destination until i've seen at least 4 competitive games from those clubs. The way it's gone so far, all have spent money, none have gelled together properly yet.

Yeah very frustrating they haven't tbh but still have faith.

I thought the best defender by a country mile today were Liam Moore for Leicester City, wow what a player he could be. Villa played very well today not allowing Stoke any time on the ball (to top that off Port Vale won 3-1 - Get in LADS). CPFC were very unlucky not to get the draw and why the Ref gave a red card is beyond me. Yes the tackle were late but common sense should have prevailed, match nearly over.

Hull City the penalty against were abysmal decison, luckily QPR missed and McGregor saved. Sanchez for Arsenal looked well off the pace, their best player were Koscielny, says a lot bout their team.

United - Well despite the loss to a very well played match by Swansea, when LVG took over Bayern Munchen he were 7th after 13 matches yet still won their title, so if anyone can turn it around will be LVG.

Believe - Been linked to Benatia (SSN - Jim White £24m, Fredy Guarin and Iker Muniain this evening/morning.

Benatia will be a start hopefully will act and encourage a snowball effect.

Southampton to beat Liverpool later - under estimate Dusan Tadic at your peril and Grazziole Pele. Newcastle to shock Man City with a 2-2 later too.

thought sanchez slotted in nice some good touches skills and runs off the wing and played well dont know how he was off the pace for his firt premier league game

Think its harsh to say LVG isn't good enough. The team isn't good enough, they lack confidence and morale, two things that will have been smashed by loss at home to Swansea. I just think LVG is the wrong type of manager at the moment. You don't want someone who's gonna get all angry with them, right now they need a natural motivator and about 6 signings. Had LVG taken over after Fergie I think it would be a different story!

Only 6 signings?

I can only think of 1 player which started yesterday, which I would want in my LFC team, and that was Rooney.

Not a single other player would get a look in, 6 world class signings might help them close the gap on the top 4, but they need a new squad, and quick.

rooney saw how great he was in englands games not a striker more a midfielder rather have rvp but wouldnt have any utd player at lfc once a utd player never a lfc

cke1982 try to put all your posts into one more concise post

Rooney really isn't a midfielder, he's a born and bred finisher but also has the ability to pick out great passes. I think he's much better played upfront but supporting a player like Van Persie/Cavani as opposed to being played at the top of midfield without having the ability to press forward and attack the defenders.

City to destroy Newcastle is a tough call. I think Pardew has finally been given the funds by Ashley to invest and i think he's invested well in players that fit the squad ethic they have there. If he can get those players to gel together, they could be a really strong side!

Good start for Sunderland
Great goal from Cattermole and a class team goal

Was it a penalty I'm not sure, very very soft

really impressed with Sunderland, think Poyet is a great manager! Think he should maybe cool off on the Borini deal though. A £14m striker isn't really what you need at Sunderland, would rather have a couple of £6m defenders! You've already got Altidore, Fletcher and Wickham. I'd also have Pantillimon in net next game, i think Mannone was weak!

Totally agree was a very soft penalty at first glance, would have to re-watch it to really say anything more though.

Agreed Sam, i am not a follower of Sunderland but from a side line view they really do need better defenders or just more to choose from if they want to do better this season.

Apart from the great pass from Henderson (Harry) to Raheem Sterling and the fine finish, Countinho looked quite sharp and class in 1st half, Liverpool have been nothing but ordinary. The longer it carries on like this, the more Southampton will be back in the match, only a matter of time.

Pelle for them has done nothing, Tadic looks quite bright plus Schneiderlin looks very comfortable. They should replace pelle asap with another Striker, someone who can link the play more with Tadic.

GET IN YOU BEAUTY 1-1!!! CLYNE!!!

Southampton deserved a draw at the least - Not impressed with Liverpool apart from their first goal. Unlucky Shane Long with the header near the end, cracking save by Mignolet from Schneiderlin though beforehand.

Liverpool might not have been great but they Won. United were not great but they lost!.

see the pattern there.

Liverpool will be fine when Lazar and Lallana fit in along with Can in place of Lucas and Moreno in place of Johnson.

Buy a striker rogers...

Very nervy performance but we held on, the defence learned from their goal to stop it the second time where last season it might've cracked and conceded a few.

First half we limited them well whilst looking a threat, it wasn't the rip roaring attack we had last season but it's done it's job and is an improvement. Second half we didn't create so much, though we did have a bit of an edge on the counter which Southampton needed a bit more of to get another goal.

Very impressive debut from Tadic, Schneiderlin woke up after we took the lead and looked a good performer. Sturridge is the natural finisher who will be our most important player, like I said. Sterling superb as always with Henderson and Coutinho having a decent game. Defence wasn't too bad, It looks like it could come together nicely but needs to improve. Lambert coming on made the difference, very well done Brendan, he won the second phase ball which lead to the winner which is exactly the sort of thing we need him to do. Then we dug in deep and didn't let them score. Great save by Mignolet, awful header afterwards even though it was a foul on Johnson.

3 points from a game we lost last season. Need another striker though I feel, someone to give that spark to the crowd. With a confident crowd, the players will grow confidence.

I think I may have overestimated United, because Southampton look miles better than them. Everton and Spurs got points in tough games and played better than United and so far the top 4 teams have got the 3 points in tough tests. United don't look up to the challenge, and the way the opening weekend has gone I am very impressed with the lower teams.

Waiting to see from Newcastle, how they play. United have got a fight to get even 7th on the evidence of this weekend.
