Nick ...
I spoke to jimfaebod last night about this .. he suggested I post ... I pointed out no matter what I had said you would not see the point ... and I was right

changing the tourneys to all ranked might be great for some ...

while it chases others away who come here for FUN

NOT to be cannon fodder for the better players

I come here for fun with my friends and Family ... and now I will be here until I find a place that still is FUN for all ages and skill

You can keep thinking its great for everyone ...
keep telling yourself this
maybe it might come true

Its just a game, maybe its not fun because you are too busy having a pop at the runners trying to make the site better? Would you rather everyone bent over and let you win the whole time? You get better by playing a better standard, you can still play friendlies with whoever you like. Dont see the issue.

mtk ...
since you missed my first post let me educate you on WHY I posted in the first place ...
me and my wife came here to find a Family friendly site where people of all ages and skill can shoot pool and have fun
She and I would enter tourneys together .. with some of our friends ... NOT caring bout rank or anything ... entering to have FUN trying to win

NOW with all the tourneys ranked most of my friends have left and the wife refuses to play in a tourney where all she gets is maybe 1 shot or 2 at the MOST ...

do I care bout winning all the time ... hell no

if Nick had left SOME of the tourneys without rank I would NOT have an issue ... I am not the only one voicing the same opinion. Giving the players a choice would have made better sense than forcing all to 1 side or the other

as for your words ...
" You get better by playing a better standard, you can still play friendlies with whomever you like. "

I am not one for caring bout gaining rank. I come here to have fun. I got on the top winners list because I LIKE shooting pool and having fun. I don't come here to be the best or beat the best.

Then enjoy it, theres no way your friends and family are getting "1 or 2 shots" as you put it in every single tourny match, something of an exaggeration i feel. If you or your friends or family don't care about rank then why do you care about ranked tournies? The standard has not got considerably higher, tournies are the same, the players are the same, the only difference being that rank is involved. Fair enough some of the better players are entering tournies more frequently now, but don't they have the same right as everybody else to enter tournies? Perhaps you need to give this update more of a chance bud? Its only been 3 or 4 days now....

There is absolutely no need to be patronising or sarcastic, if you want to debate this then be civil or I'll block you from posting again.

What it sounds like you would like is a tournament where lower ranked players can compete. This is a separate issue and is really outside the scope of this thread, but by all means start a new thread.

That the best players are once again taking an interest in tournaments is successful as far as I'm concerned.

nick whats your views on this:

if you dont turn up to your game you should lose all the games that are up for grabs and not one?

i think it will cut out people looking at their opponents rank and not bothering going to the game because they might lose 7(maybe more) points a frame. Then they have to go to the game or they risk losing a lot more than just 7(or how ever many) points that they would lose just conceding the 1 frame for not turning up?

It would be very difficult to differntiate the reason as to why someone did not turn up for a game. I have been logged out through connection problems, therefore no fault of mine.. Happened to me after 2 shots in the final against al the other morning..

i no it will be hard but i made this point as al_ boycotted a final because he knew he would lose loads of rank if he lost one frame, if this was put in place he would have gone to the game instead of boycotting it and losing just the one game

For this whole tourny - ranking thing to work 2nd accounts NEED to be clamped down on and stopped from joining (i know its hard but really it just ruins it for everyone else)

Exactly and a player boycotting a final like that makes a mockery of that whole tournament. It needs to be stopped somehow I feel.

I would agree in principal as to a member deliberately not showing, but then individuals who lose their connection, instead of being penalised 1 ranked match, which is frustraing enough, would now lose, 2, 3 or even 5 ranked matches.

Nick,

Just wanted to thank you for making the tourny's ranked games, now I am getting my backside handed to me every time I enter a one. 45 to 4 makes for such a fun game and I am learning so much.

I use to love playing in a tournament, even when I was playing a high ranked person then myself and got beaten. I do not really care about my wins and losses but how much I enjoyed the game.

"That the best players are once again taking an interest in tournaments is successful as far as I'm concerned.'

this says it all to me, so thanks for a game that once was fun

I previously thought that a single game deficit would be sufficient to prevent someone from pulling out. This case was a rare combination of Al, with a correct very high rank versus Dark_Choco, who had an incorrect low rank in a marathon tournament. If you look at dark_choco it seems that he has not been playing ranked games, so should have really been considered a newbie. This can't happen with future accounts, as we now use number of ranked games for newbie calculations. (The problem was we didn't before.)

So to get to the point - this kind of thing will certainly happen less as people's ranking levels out and corrects itself, but we can look into this again in a few weeks if need be.

And, I agree with the comments above, it is very much a shame that the final wasn't played.

i agree too however has people who know me know i get disconnected more times than hot dinners whether its ranked, tournaments or whatever and would frustrate me even more to lose more rank than i should.

hoping to get it sorted soon though.

If you truly must know. It is entering a game where you are the lowest person on the dog pile, and not being able to get out of it no matter how good your personal best is.

I have not ever won a tourney, but at least I can say I made it to the finals. Now the only way I am advancing is on a bye. what fun is there in advancing that way?

Also some of the "ranked" players are just that rank as is in bad smelling. nothing worse then a sore loser is a Sore Winner, and that is what happens as well.

But you definately aren't a sore loser?

I personally don't get why you did it? You are capable of beating anyone 5-0 on your day, why not go for it? Plus you know full well you would have any lost rank regained within a day.

I'm not trying to blame you, and you have no reason to apologize as far as I'm concerned, you played by the current rules of the game and you are in your right to withdraw. I consider it more a problem due to discrepancies as the old system is phased out.
