One thing to consider is that generally the strength of the fields in the marathon tournaments is less than the normal tournaments - and I am not entirely sure thats down to any issues regarding tournapoints.
Maybe increasing the points available will increase the strength. I hope so because if not then one or two top players who now might enter a marathon will clean up some big, relatively easy points.
What might help is returning the marathons to 'Major'/'Top Billing' positions in the schedule ie peak times on the hour. As the UK8 Marathon used to be when it was at 10/11pm each night?

8 Ball UK Marathon Tournament, 20:30 Sun 12 Jun 11
http://www.funkypool.com/tournaments/60595
Winner: egotistical
Points won by winner: 462
Tournament end time: 22:18
So in that space of time, a player could play the micro tourneys that start at 20:45/50, 21:15/20, 21:45/50 and 22:15/20 and win a total of 448 points for winning 12 frames of pool. And that was the most lucrative marathon tourney in the past 7 days, and would have lasted longer but for everyone having a bye in round 1. The tournament http://www.funkypool.com/tournaments/60299 went from 18:30 to 20:25 and only had 350 for the winner.
As an added two cents, if the proposal is to increase the amount of points for marathons, maybe also have a minimum amount for winning, guaranteeing that it will be attractive no matter how many take part. Might backfire too of course, if, say, only 4 people take part in a late night/early morning event.

9 ball speed winner got 476 points for winning 4 frames, egotistical had to win 18 frames to win that marathon. So definitely need the change.

However, in this example, in the marathon tourney egotistical could've lost up to 13 frames if he won each match by only 1 frame (not that he did!), and he would've still won the tourney. Whereas if you lose 1 frame in a speed tourney you're out (except in the final).
I agree with the proposed change in touna points, but just pointing out the facts.
