no it wasnt. Hamilton ran wide on that same corner for the same reasons (as far as i understand) and slicks, wet weather, wet track, too fast, TOO WIDE.

I am a Ferarri fan too and would have loved to see Massa take the crown; but Glock ran wide. It happens...just had a MASSIVE outcome!

I particularly like your great line of arguments behind that claim.

Hmm, fixed is a strong word.
Luck? Yes (even the commentary said it would come down to luck)
End of the day, i accept Hamilton as our champion, and just look forward to a great season next year, it's going to be a belter.

I wouldn't even call it luck. Whitmarsh said that McLaren always knew Hamilton would have Glock on the last lap.

What people need to understand is that the teams have a GREAT level of control when it comes to how much lap times suffer from different tyre choices on different amounts of rain, precisely how much time a pitstop costs, and whether or not it pays to stop or not. They have 20+ years of more or less relevant statistical data to base that decision on, as well as up-to-date computer models for the current cars and setups. This is science on literally space level, nothing coincidental about it at all.

Of course, those decisions are in the end object to uncontrollable factors, like just how much rain will set in, where on the track, as well as accidents and so on. That however, does not reduce the need to make educated decisions the slightest - you make the most educated call you CAN, and leave the rest to work out as best it can.

When 10 of 11 teams choose to pit their cars, while Toyota, already having nothing to lose, choose to gamble and stay out, it should be obvious which call is the safer one, vs. which is risky. You don't win a F1 championship by taking unwarranted risks - which is why you would never see a Ferrari or a McLaren ever doing such gambles, without already being in a position where you have no points to lose.

Does anybody remember when (i think it was in Spain 2001, not sure though!) Hakkinen broke down and Coulthard stopped and gave him a lift round to the pits?

Ive been looking for videos or at the very least a picture of it, hence the ridiculous time, and cannot find anything!!

Im now seriously doubting of it even happened so if anybody knows what im on about, or even has a link to a picture/video of it, it would be much appreciated.

Please, aid my sanity!

Sorry I can't find anything either dr_lovepump and never saw it myself

Here is clip of when the Massa crew realised they had lost http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mlJWwuV9eBw

Check the very end for the bit that ITV didn't show.

That did happen, but it wasn't Hakkinen and Coulthard. It was Senna and Mansell.

Senna was retired, as Mansell was going on his in-lap after he had won, he stopped where Senna was stood, and climbed onto the left side of the car and held on.
A great moment in F1

I wish those cars would make a return.

The Senna/Mansell lift showed a high level of sportsmanship on Mansell's part, there would be none of that if it was me! And considering they were on different teams battling for the title!

For anybody who has not saw it...

Hang on... The person riding the car in the video is in an orange suit, while the person in the picture is wearing a white suit.

Anyone care to explain?

Oh yeh lol, these are two separate incidents (seperate by 10 years!), are the two recent incidents of one driver giving the other a lift back to the pits after they retired.

The picture is Hakkinen/Coulthard and the video is Mansell/Senna.

I can't find the Hakkinen/Coulthard video anywhere! And I love it where Senna (I think) kicks the bloke as he gets on the car

Sad news today, Honda forced to pull out of F1.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7766092.stm

After all the hype about them developing a very competitive car for the 2009 season, and having a promising team indeed, it's very sad to see.

I hope Button can find a drive for next year.
