To be honest, Jenson Button will be quicker without a car!

Button is a great driver - he must be given a car!!!!!
I think Lewis should let him drive his for a bit......
I can't see him getting a drive now, all the teams have their drivers I think?? Although I think Renault should get rid of Piquet and let Jenson in........

Couldn't agree more John - it would been really interesting to see what the hyped brit could do in a decent car for once
btw, very interesting reading up on f1.com these days, with comprehensive discussions around next years rule changes... Accordig to the 6 person panel interviewed from McLaren, initial tests show an overall reduction in downforce of over 50%! Which is absolutely great news!
Although I'm sure they'll edge back more downforce as adjustments progress, the impact IS huge - and needs to be.
Combined with a ~25% gain in mechanical grip from slicks over grooved tyres, this season should be interesting to say the least.
The obvious downside is that these changes are promoting costs, not reducing them - which in turn means the gap between top teams vs. the chasing ones will likely grow larger instead of being reduced.
This is the single largest rule change in the history of F1.

Hmm, i reckon the single largest rule change was the traction control. It's totally changed the way the cars have to be set up.
20:21 Sat 6 Dec 08 (GMT) [Link]
That change is already behind us, and is technically just a step back to what F1 was used to for years. Not such a big deal as you might think, and certainly not any real issue for the teams as such - more so for the drivers.
The 2009 rules turns the car design upside down. Day and night difference. TC is insignificant in comparison.

To be honest, Jenson Button will be quicker without a car!
i agree that i don't think he has done a good enough job this season, someone like webber proved that he can do a good job in the not so fast car(unlucky he broke his leg though)
Even though he was in a shocking car and i am sure i will have lots of people disagree with me, i dont think anyone will take his unless mclearn take him, hanki could have done better this year, jenson would fit into that team.

When did Webber drive a Honda?
It's not Jenson's fault he's in a terrible car, surely?
If you look back in the season Jenson was driving well, better than what the car would let him, only problem was half the time the car broke down. If anyone would of listened to what Jenson said for the past two years you'll understand why the car was so slow. They have poor aerodynamics, which is odd cause a few seasons ago they had it better than most........ Can't turn a corner without downforce! Should of gone to Williams Jenson!
I think most drivers will agree you can only go as fast as the car will allow. Some drivers can get more out of it, but you've got to have a compeitive car to be competitive yourself!

i never said he did, i was saying that he proved that, it is still possible, to do good in a not so fast car.

Sorry, took it the wrong way Nick!
Webber is driving a half decent car, hardly fair to compare him to Button. I think if Webber was in Button's car and vice-versa then results would still be the same!
I still can't believe Piquet has been given another year.
I wonder if he'd had a different name would this be so? I know people will argue that he did some good races, but IMO he didn't really impress that much. The second place thing (or was it third) was a pure fluke and all down to team tactics.
People moan about Hamilton getting a decent car rather than working his way up when he's proved he should be in a good car, I don't feel Piqet has done himself justice and think there are far better drivers out there. (*COUGH* Anthony Davidson *COUGH*)
Whilst I'm moaning about drivers, why the hell is Nakijima still driving, he has to be one of the woese I've seen, although Sato could be just as bad..........??

Well, it's not entirely NOT his fault either... for two reasons...
1. A great driver contributes to the team building a better car (Schumacher, and Alonso being great examples, not to mention people like Senna back in the good days)
2. A driver that teams truly believe is great is offered a seat in a truly great car sooner or later. Jenson, sadly, has soon gone through his entire career without that happening.

Point 1 doesn't back up anything. Both Schumacher and Alonso were in cars that was near greatness, they just added that extra bit.......
Jenson has gone to a team which is still quite new to F1 and tried to make the car better, he thought it was gonna happen however something has gone wrong along the line.
I still think he's one of the best drivers in F1, if he was in one of the top cars he'd be challenging for titles.
He won a race in a mediocre car, that counts for something.....

Honda were in F1 for years, as a team and engine supplier.
In the 60's, Honda were around but i can't remember why they pulled out, it was a death of their driver i think (had an F1 book encyclopedia and read it all when i was younger!)
Besides, they had Ross Braun for 2 years? Surely Enough time to develop a "1 season car". Weren't Renault the same when they returned to F1, they had Alonso (Wasn't long in F1)
Honda may have also decided they were putting too much money into the cars and not getting enough back.
EDIT: Just looked at Honda's reason for pulling out back in the 60's. It was the death of Jo Schlesser.
Though Honda were engine suppliers for years, a real shame to see them go again!

i aint going to moan about drivers this time, i am going to congratulate Vettel.
In my eyes best driver this season with the car he had, i would like him to have another year in the torro rosso, then maybe Ferrari should take him. I really would like to see massa and vettel in the red car together.

Well, everything is relative, none of those cars were crap obviously, then again, how small that "extra bit" is is highly debatable. Particularly in the case of Alonso joining McLaren - which, despite how much I dislike the whining brat of a spaniard, lifted the car to a quite different level than what it would have been without his presence in the team.
And it's not only a matter of getting a car from bad to good. It's also a matter of contributing to keeping it on top - which most of the time is a not very visible, but all the more important aspect of this sport.

He got awarded Rookie of the year, and definitely deserved it. Impossible to compare to the other top drivers since we lack any sort of common reference tho, but he's good, theres no doubt about that.

So Alonso should of made the Minardi a winner......
I get your points, and I didn't know - or in fact I'd forgot that Honda have been in formula 1 for a while.
My feeling is, and this won't be changed, that he's one of the best drivers there when in a good car.

Sadly, I doubt we'll ever know.
To be honest tho, how this works is the teams bring drivers in for tests. Often 2-3 candidates at each session, for purpose of comparison. Jenson has been to a number of those through his career, and have had plenty opportunity to show his talent to decent teams. If he had been a top driver (not just a quite good one), I'm confident you would have seen him in a good car long ago.
Teams are too serious about winning in this sport to "overlook" potential world champions. Good drivers don't rot their entire career in crap cars by accident.

I just saw the new Ferrari car it looks really odd and not very nice looking, at least it will stand out.
