The truth-telling twin will guide you the wrong path, because that's what his liar twin will say.

The liar will point you to the wrong path, because he will lie about what the truthful one will say.

So that question guarantees you will get the same, wrong answer from both twins.

EDIT: Technically the truthy twin is still giving you the right answer! I meant, you're guaranteed to find out which is the path that gets you lost, and then obviously you'll know the right one.

I'm afraid this riddle is so awful that I'll have to tell you the answer and put it out of its misery.

You prepare 100 pieces of paper, and you write "Death" on all of them. Next day, you go before the king, pull a piece of paper out of a hat/bag to determine your fate... and eat it. Then you can proudly announce that as there are 99 Deaths still in there, it proves you pulled out the Life one.
