8UK on US Table

I think the 8UK table should be scrapped, and instead play it on the same table as US games with the same balls (but red and yellow obviously), but still with the same current rules for 8UK.
The US tables had a makeover a couple of months ago, and the UK table still looks outdated. You can't rattle a ball in the jaws (which can be a good thing, with the cue ball etc.), and I have never on a pool table rolled a ball down the cushion and it has gone in the middle pocket. Nor have I had a pocket that protrudes half way into the table.
I know people who like 8UK will disagree etc. but these are just my opinions

The UK table is the sole remaining "historic" part of this site, and the table will never change as drastically as that! And rightly so IMO.

But the uk table is complete fabrication compared to what a uk table should look like.

I see you point, but things have to change eventually. So what you're saying is the other tables, over the next 5 years let's say, will change and adapt (as has been happening) but the UK table should stay as it is (or more or less as it is now) ''forever''. It isn't realistic to me, especially compared to the US tables.

The tables are hardly realistic at all lol...if the UK table was to change to how the US tables are the site would die a miserable death, it always has and always will be the most popular game on the site!

I agree its the most popular because it the easiest the same with arc over on snooker, and no the us tables are not completely realistic but anyone that plays uk in real life knows that the uk table on this site makes a mockery of what a lot of us can do in real life. The game is not as easy as these tables make it.

Going on amount of games played in each type, you're right. But personally it's my least favourite game type. If it changes, it doesn't have to be exactly the same as the US tables, but should be evolving nearer to it than it currently is. But say it did become exactly the same, everybody knows how to, and can play the US types, and if the rules stay the same (as they should do), the only thing that will differentiate the top UK players from the others is the tactics you use to play. Which would be tactics that are not applicable in 8US for example.
Another thing (that doesn't bother me) is that the physics of UK are different, the balls are a lot heavier etc. UK balls are just bigger, differently coloured US balls with a flat tyre.

UK is the most challenging game on here when played competitively, so I don't think it's the easiest game by any means. You can't compare the tables on here with those in real life, like has always been said this is funkypool not realisticpool!

All the tables are wrong lol. The dimensions of the balls are all wrong and the pocket cuts are wrong.
Either correct them all properly or don't bother

US tables are good enough for me lol, but the UK table is lagging behind

Been asked for 100's of times previously and the table has never been changed, it seems it is the one thing that cannot change!!!. Some seem to love the fact it is so wrong, me personally i dislike uk as i find the table a joke and if it was changed to a more realistic one i may play it more who knows.

tell me this is sarcasm? in 8 uk the way the table is, if your opponent has 3 or less balls on the table there should be a 'i can't be bothered tapping the balls into the massive pockets' button so you can claim the frame.

That right there, is exactly why i dont think it should be changed.. if that goes, theres nothing left of the old site and its just going to lose more people then it would gain playing it by changing it imo.. this site needs to keep a touch of the older style

Why not keep the 8uk as it is but introduce the 8uk onto a more 8us table dimension for those who fancy a new challenge. Same should apply to the membership tbh, the 5 cues thing is out dated now, should be more to entice a player to want to become a premium member.
Change comes with time but most people fail to adapt or even accept change so that's why I suggest keeping the original style for them.
I'd also change the way killer is played, I know some people and pubs who actually use the rule you gain a life if you pot the black even if you have 3 lives already, also I know some who if you have 3 lives and pot the black then you forfeit one of yours as a consequence.
I think new games and rules would enhance this site and bring in a bigger crowd.

The site has never gone for realism, the game can be (and is) different to real life to keep it entertaining. Why make the 8uk tabl more like an 8us table for the 8us players sakes? Surely listen to those who play 8uk?
I would point out it is possible to rattle on the middle pockets of the UK table, and theres nothing wrong with being able to pot down the rail into the middle pocket as it gives the table it's uniqueness. Playing it on an 8us table seems silly, and since it's a more popular game type it would make more sense to have 8us on UK table (not that I think that should happen either)
When a ball is touching a rail it is impossible to put spin on the ball on the side touching the rail in real life, but on funky it is possible and I think it would detract from the game to remove this possibility.
I also agree that 8uk can be the most challenging when played competitively as it is unique in the respect that players can have a more attacking approach than on the 8us table, but also a more defensive approach. This allows a big clash of styles to breed heated battles, whereas 8us can only offer a persons take on deliberate fouls as a clash in styles.

I don't feel new games are needed, we have enough and it just dilutes what's available over more types instead of concentrating it into fewer game types which can guarantee games.
There's another thread on this so I won't go into detail, but the bigger crowds stuff needs to come from a different direction. More specifically a backwards step to old times. (old ranking system - this one doesn't really do its job as rankings don't match ability, old tourney setup - scrap micros and half hourly in favour of the hourly to increase entrants and bring value back to the majority of tournaments, etc)

I fully agree with you on the old ranking system, the points nowadays are a farce. I think the 8uk needs to be modernised and brought up to date, but I think the table as it is should remain for those who appreciate it. The 8uk game type is the most played by far and will continue to be, so alienating them is a no go in my opinion. That's why I suggested maybe introducing a modernised type of 8uk to accommodate those who seek a new challenge.
The ranking system really does need looking at and also the deactivating your account too. It's too easy for someone who's having say a bad time to feel oh well I'll just create a new account, esp when part of a team. There should be consequences for such actions, some ppl do it as a rash decision but then they soon re-activate. Maybe this could be deterred if there's incorporated a 1 month ban before they can return? Unless they can prove otherwise to the Admin team.
I'm sick of playing newbies, esp when it's obvious they aren't. Ruins the whole aspect of the game and okay i only lose a minuscule amount of points, but this is in my opinion unsporting and should be stamped out.

Ah see that's partly my point, when played super competitively like it was years ago when all the best players played, that sort of situation would rarely have arisen and it would have been far from simple to be in a position where you had a shot whilst your opponent had only 3 balls left. It would often take upwards of 15 minutes for that to happen against the very best, competitive players, would never see that in 9 ball and very rarely in US8. So no, not sarcastic at all

No it's not! It's quite easy to get backspin on a cueball glued to the cushion.
A game being competitive because of how easy it is to play is a bit of a fabrication....It should be competitive because of the quality of player (Just like the other game types...).
I really don't understand how anybody can argue that the 8UK table is nice table or a good idea

If you played most of the top lads from quite a few years back, I don't think you would be calling the game easy! Potting the balls is very easy fair enough, but I find it just as easy on the US tables so I don't see how UK's any easier in that sense.
