I think you'll find scab was used as a term of abuse. And you have used it at least four times in this thread including against your own mother-in-law.

scab id the term that Yorkshiremen amongst other brits use to describe anyone that agreed with thatcher over the miners are crossed the picket lines, if u agree with her, u may aswell have crossed the lines in my book

Entitled to his own opinion though right?

I thought I did say that?
Not entitled to abuse anyone who disagrees though.

Emergency Lalla Ward Ten:
TRAMP THE DIRT DOWN - Elvis Costello

I saw a newspaper picture from the political campaign
A woman was kissing a child, who was obviously in pain
She spills with compassion, as that young child's
Face in her hands she grips
Can you imagine all that greed and avarice
Coming down on that child's lips

Well I hope I don't die too soon
I pray the lord my soul to save
Oh I'll be a good boy, I'm trying so hard to behave
Because there's one thing I know, I'd like to live
Long enough to savour
That's when they finally put you in the ground
I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down

When England was the ,.l;' of the world
Margaret was her madam
And the future looked as bright and as clear as
The black tarmacadam
Well I hope that she sleeps well at night, isn't
Haunted by every tiny detail
'Cos when she held that lovely face in her hands
All she thought of was betrayal

And now the cynical ones say that it all ends the same in the
long run
Try telling that to the desperate father who just squeezed the
life from his only son
And how it's only voices in your head and dreams you never
dreamt
Try telling him the subtle difference between justice and
contempt
Try telling me she isn't angry with this pitiful discontent
When they flaunt it in your face as you line up for punishment
And then expect you to say thank you straighten up, look proud
and pleased
Because you've only got the symptoms, you haven't got the whole
disease
Just like a schoolboy, whose head's like a tin-can
Filled up with dreams then poured down the drain
Try telling that to the boys on both sides, being blown to bits
or beaten and maimed
Who takes all the glory and none of the shame

Well I hope you live long now, I pray the lord your soul to keep
I think I'll be going before we fold our arms and start to weep
I never thought for a moment that human life could be so cheap
'Cos when they finally put you in the ground
They'll stand there laughing and tramp the dirt down

The Mumbler:
Was the tune of that supposed to allude to Stevie Wonder's Isn't She Lovely? I know Costello probably couldn't have said as much for copyright reasons, but it is amusingly similar....

The privatisation of many industries helped to lead to a more efficient, better run and better value service for everyone that lives in the UK today.

Yes miners were out of jobs. This really isn't a problem from an economic viewpoint. Its progress.

VAT went up. This affected everyone. The rich spend more therefore more tax is coming from them... Seems perfectly fair to me.

With regards to having multiethnic children in schools, I have no idea how you can blame that on her. That's if it can be something to be "blamed" for. As its debateable if its a problem or not. I do understand the point you made about it though derik so I wont go into that

Maybe the VAT was fair but the Poll Tax was the most unfair tax system ever introduced be rich or poor you paid the same flat rate.

tbf the point made about that with schools is more of an indirect one, I were more moaning and generalising life as I see it in the town I live

Agreed, the introduction of Poll Tax was horrific.

"Economically, socially and technologically, she had a bit of a mixed record I think. She defeated the union fundamentalists, but failed to reskill the workers. She closed lossmaking mines, but didn't try to create new industries elsewhere nearby. She misspent the free money from North Sea oil. The emerging UK computing industry (e.g. Sinclair computers) was never nurtured like it was in the US (e.g. Microsoft).
Overall, Mrs Thatcher was the most important woman globally of the 20th century. But she did have some major flaws."

Been reading a forum on the economist about her, this is someone else's words but sums up my views on her quite well. The bit i've put in bold is my main criticism of her, had she addressed that problem I think people's views of her would be very different to what they generally are.

I dont really have a personal opinion of the woman. Didn't know her, haven't seen her speeches or anything like that. But from studying her politics, choices and economic outcomes of her decisions I think she is the type of person the world could do with a few more of.

Your obviously an intelligent man squeezy,as u are polite when ive played you, im not saying everything she did was wrong and neither can I fault her for being strong minded, however theres a fine line between confidence and arrogance and I think she crossed it, the basic principle of conservative politics in my opinion is make the rich richer so they can emply more of the poor, and spend more money and so on and so forth, I don't believe the policy works, and the working class northerner especially would not agree with her policies or your comments, in my opinion she was evil and cunning and im glad shes going to be 6 foot under

Will admit one thing she did a good job on Gorbachev, don't think the Americans and the Russians would have ever got round the table if it was not for her.

I would say she definitely crossed that line. I also think she had many faults and of course made some bad decisions.

I'm just trying to point out that she did do SOME good and that she wasn't a total witch. Its sad to see anyone suffer from dementia, multiple strokes and having half a nation hate you at the same time. Must have been horrible for her and her family and no doubt still is.

I'm slightly to young to remember her as PM added to that fact I'm not into or know nothing about politics so I haven't got a clue what she did wrong. I'm sure the woman did something right but all I know she did was stop people from eating eggs and drinking milk.. Something daft like that
