Hope that RIP stands for rot in pieces.
Destroyed Liverpool, and if it wasn't for the sheer determination of the people of Liverpool we would still be fighting for the truth about Hillsborough which she covered up.
She was also at fault for the toxteth riots.
Also destroyed Yorkshire in her own way if anyone wants to come to a celebratory party drop me a message.

I shall keep my personal opinion to myself, however I will not be saying RIP either.
Can I remind everyone to keep it nice please. I understand the underlying hate that people hold her with and I totally think it just. However I can't have people being called a scab for liking her either.
Ta very much! (Ding Dong).

i understand your point mate, its my personal opinion that anyone that condones what she has done is therefore a scab

Just a few reasons not to like her...
Stops free milk for school children and deregulates school meals so they can eat crap instead.
She ruined 1/5 of our industrial base, unemployment was at least doubled under her reign causing riots in many cities. She privatised industries, including gas, water, electricity and other state owned companies.
^ That point probably caused the increased crime rate as the welfare state has set in.
VAT increased from 8% to 17.5% under Thatcher.
Went on a spending spree and abolished credit controls, resulting in recession.
Oh and the Falklands? She could have avoided the whole thing before it started!
AND Hillsborough!

If you have any knowledge of politics then you will know that in this country the electoral system historically and naturally favours the left of centre. The Conservative Party under her won three consecutive overall majorities I think. If nothing else that shows a level of support across all groups which cannot be denied and shows that something must have been done right at the time.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course but calling someone a 'scab' simply because they oppose your view is not right. If nothing else because the meaning of the word 'scab' is not being used in the right context.

Where am I from?
Not sure that is relevant at all bearing in mind the point I made. If everyone everywhere agreed with every policy of every party then politics would not exist (maybe a good thing? lol)
I am guessing from the profile age your memories of the time arent first hand yourself but influenced by elders/others?
As for raising the VAT rate I think there was already a higher luxury VAT rate brought in by the previous government so the two rates merged in the middle in effect. VAT rates are (and I assume always were?) set within guidelines dictated by the EU to a large extent.
As for milk for schoolchildren and dinners. As a parent would I want my taxes to go on that when they could go on something else more important? No. Would I want to pay more tax just to provide milk and schooldinners? No. And both were in existence when I was at school so I do have first hand memories of them.

I haven't posted my own personal opinion on this matter at all yet you have made that assumption?
All I have done is highlight some facts. I am not here to force my own view on others on any subject, or abuse anyone that may not agree for whatever reason they themselves might have.

Best post I saw about this:
Only history will judge Margaret Thatcher. She is certainly one of the most incredibly important figures in 20th century history perhaps the one figure that polarises opinion the most in this country. My humanity and decency forbids me from posting what I really think of this politician, traits I sincerely wish she and her fellow ministers would have down more of when they held the reins of power. In truth she was a consummate politician who understood the value of populist politics more than another pm barring Churchill. No mean feat. Her legacy lives on in political ideology and, I must say sadly we have not seen the end of her influence. Mourn or celebrate politics divides but essentially it has been established for thousands of years and this passing beautifully illustrates how it touches people. I cannot bring myself to post RIP but I will certainly live the rest of my life having being heavily influenced by Mrs Thatcher's years in government and for that I cannot thank her enough. She influenced me to never hold her political views as long as I draw breath. I believe government is elected to build a state not attempt to destroy its most vulnerable members and revel in it.

I think you'll find scab was used as a term of abuse. And you have used it at least four times in this thread including against your own mother-in-law.
