i think those horns, vuvuzelas or whatever they are called are actually taking the atmosphere away from the world cup

you cant actually hear the chants from opposing fans

I think you are wrong, it doesnt take away the atmosphere. The world cup is in Africa, this is the whole point of the world cup....different places, diffrerent experiences and different cultures.
This is Africa, all part of the African experience and i love it.
Anyway i bought a vuvuzela from Lidl today for £1.99 and im loving it.
Bring on Friday

Early group games have always been slow to start in the World Cup as a rule, teams don't want to lose 1st match so tend to play cautious, but hopefully as we get into the final group games, things will liven up

Yeah was the same with the Germany match, they were taking it slowly and when they got into step they were firing them in.

Its started the same as all World Cups. Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Holland all start with a win and look good, Italy draw but wont go out and England make hard work of it.

What always happens in the end is we play one of the big sides, find out we cant get the ball off them, revert to kick and rush and go out. Then we can get all the mugs and flags for 20p but nobody wants them.

Stats:
Spain had won their previous 12 games against everyone.
Spain had never lost to Switzerland before today, winning 15 out of 18 games.

Stats are there to be broken. Glad Spain got beat. Teams like Spain, Argentina and Brazil think they only need to turn up to win.

Thats rubbish. Spain spent the whole game attacking. It was the Swiss who just turned up, and parked the bus. Its a shame for football when a defensive team who only come for 0-0 beats a team that tried to attack and play proper football.

Pfftt. Football's all about scoring more than your opponent, not about having countless attacks and having nothing to show for it. Switzerland were brilliant today, played the absolute perfect game against a team who are gonna have virtually that much possession against every team they play, so I was delighted for them. Spain will win their next two games though.

So if you had to sit in a room and watch footie all day Niall, would you rather watch two teams passing and attacking? Or two teams like Switzerland packing the penalty area and playing out 90 mins without bothering to attack. Thats not football, thats just a war of attrition.

I'd rather not sit in a room all day and watch footie

But yeah, obviously I'd rather watch two teams passing and attacking, but when one team is blatantly incapable of getting a hold of the ball while the other dominates possession, I enjoy watching that team defend brilliantly and counter when it matters. Switzerland were superb at what they did today, there's no denying that whatsoever! I hope Spain go a long way, preferably while being a whole lot more effective with possession

The fact that the Swiss countered Spain enough to score a goal suggests they did well

Be serious though, Spain are if not the best attacking sides, then among the top 3

Switzerland would lose badly if they tryed to attack to much, Spain would rip them open time after time. They (like most of the lesser teams hoping to score an upset) have to soak up the pressure and stay disciplined and focussed if they are to get a result

I would rather see 2 teams, performing to the best of their ability rather than an all out attacking match which turns into a one sided match

Spain might have spent the whole game attacking but where did it get them? Possession is nothing without scoring. It's the results that matter, regardless of how good or bad you play. Playing proper football isn't much good when it costs you the game.

"Results Are Everything"

Would you rather YOUR team to play attractive football, lose every week and get knocked-out OR play negative football and get ugly wins and qualify?

Its amazing how everyone moans about how boring the World Cup is this year......and then defends negative football
and says 'Win at all costs.' The cost is a boring World Cup. Reap what you sow.
