Just a little discussion, i know most people seem happy enough with 20 second shot clocks, but would it be possible to maybe have an extension to 30?

It wouldn't really affect players who like 20 seconds but it helps those who like to plan shots carefully and avoids them being annoyed by a random shot time limit penalty

well most people are happy with 20 secs so why change it it keeps the flow of games going ..

dont see why anyone would have random shots, tournaments have 20 secs as standard dont see to many people complaining ,,, just my own view

Personally I think league games are more than long enough as it is... Longer shot clock = longer average game duration.

Longer game duration = more defaults for partially or unplayed games, since people will get interrupted more and/or be unable to play because the time window they have is too short to complete the game.

Not such a big deal I guess, most games wouldn't be much different with 30 sec compared to 20, but the occasional game would drag on a lot longer - potentially as much as 50% longer duration.

yea 20 secs fine, don't want to be sitting around for a person who uses every 30 seconds to play his shot, it would slow down the games too much imo

Well the 30 seconds would be on the occasional shot, 10 extra seconds maybe 6 shots where it is needed is an extra minute

every other shot would be played in the same way, except better quality games and defaults wouldn't really be affected as most games wouldn't be affected at all by 60 seconds

Tactics have more influence over how long the game is rather than time and someone frustrated about not having 30 seconds could make the game longer by using the 20 seconds or playing safeties all the time

imo 20 seconds is sometimes 2 long when someone uses all 20 nearly every shot id vote for 15 if it was an option 30 is ludacrus

Thats your opinion, just as i think 15 seconds is insanity
more people prefer to plan shots than to rush them

Problem is that you are yet again viewing the world as a mirror of how YOU play...

Yes, a lot of players would do just that: Use the full time on the rare occasions where it's really needed, and play faster on most other shots.

Problem is, some players will use the full time on every single shot - and they would be in their full right to do so too.

And to use the same argument back at you: If more than 20 seconds is so rarely needed, you can live just fine with the standard 20 we're currently using.

Not at all, never have i seen someone constantly use the full time in a clan match or pool event, but at least several times per day i see shots rushed because of a low time limit

personally, i would like more freedom but i can adjust to 20 seconds, it just means im not as aggression in my game and would be more likely to play safe as i wouldn't have time to readjust
this is more for other players i have spoke with in particular snooker players who have to think about shots and are used to a bigger time limit

Can't see many people taking advantage of a 30 second shot clock, i mean they need to weigh up there life if they wanna sit there for 30 seconds twiddling their thumbs in order to try and win more.

I think the 30 sec clock would definatly be a better option but jan is also correct in that it would take up more time and could raise defaults, maybe you should try it and see how it goes though before writing it off right away, nothing to stop it being changed back to 20 if it doesnt go well eh?

10 secs just about gives u enough time to get spin on cueball and play yer shot but quite tight.

15 secs would make games a bit more interesting as even the seasoned players would have to be sharp.

20 seconds is more than enough for most to play a shot.

any more than 20 seconds and i'm outta there.....as kev and qp say 20 is ample time and games are long enough as it is.

here endeth the lesson

I was about to come on and make the same point as Zante...

Often the only times i can play are when I am in work or babysitting which my attention is always all over the place anyway so i need time to play a shot or it would result in a random.

Also with some players they sometimes get a lot of pms about different things e.g zante runs a league so would need to answer queries etc.

How about the HOME player having a choice of 20 or 30 seconds?

I say leave the shot clock at 20 seconds as a rule but If you have a good reason for wanting it longer ask your opponent and if they agree fine, as long as both players agree.
