luckypot makes a very good and valid point but there are people that would be very good mods who dont apply because they think they have 'no chance' for whatever reason. As its going to stay the same maybe admin could do some active 'talent spotting', for want of a better phrase, to make the most of the only 'real' assets that this site possesses - it's members.

If someone doesn't apply because they think they don't stand 'no chance' then they shouldn't be a Mod. Both Mods and Admin ask members to apply, I was asked, and I've asked members to apply. Not to say they got the position, but I've felt they've got something, so well worth asking them to apply.

I dont totally agree that if someone feels they have 'no chance' then they shouldnt be a mod - if that was the case in everyday life then there are some top people I have worked with and developed that would never have got anywhere. But I am glad to hear what you said about people being approached - it does need to happen in my opinion to get some of the best people for the job.

Lets try to clarify this as much as possible.

The above already happens, and always has, indeed i wouldnt have been a moderator if it didn't.

The moderating criteria is very clear and everyone is encouraged to apply if they wish. Indeed there are occasional announcements made in-game with a direct link to the application page.

There is also a misconception that because some moderators are not so visible and active, they are not doing anything. There is a lot more to the job that sitting in chat waiting for problems, and everyone does their bit to help.

As already mentioned, inactive staff are always returned to member status as a matter of security.

Finally, remember that you dont have to be a moderator to help out! We are all just members who can work together to make the site better for everyone.

lol tally, thanks for the confidence, but when it comes to the topic in general, please keep in mind that people's lives are not constant. How much time members spend on this site comes in waves, some periods you play and spend a lot of time here, other periods you may be more tired about the game or have other things going on that prevents you from playing as much. The same goes for moderators.

Of course, completely inactive moderators get replaced over time, but it is completely unrealistic to expect moderator presence to have a constant level all the time. It goes a bit up and down, like for all (or most lol) members.

That would also depend if the right mod was in place, i would say pool_bird spends 21 hours a day on AVERAGE and gets my vote to take over from Nick when he retires!!

I don't think there is any reason to feel let down. I'm sure 90% of meembers are very grateful for all the moderators taking time to actually take the job on and make the site a better place to be!

It is just a thread to bring up the subject that seems to be brought up alot. If you look at the original post the thread seems to have gone off the boil somewhat in different parts (The nominations and the who makes good mods etc...). Everything was summed up with the list of moderators not having a cut off point. And as everyone knows, like you rightly pointed out the process takes place every month, so really there is not a problem. The only problem is people have a life to live I.e work, family and student nights lol. But with there being no cut off point, it'll all be fine if the right people apply..

Nobody is doubting anyones credentials and most of the time I'm online there is a moderator and I think all those moderators are great, from what I have seen.

No need to feel down about it all, people are grateful I'm sure.
