I just think there are people out there who could offer a lot to the site. They wouldn't apply themselves but would be delighted to help if asked. There are modest people around - even on this website!

Just like you carefully considered the previous three replies? Because you seem to have ignored all the points and an admin and a mods good explanations of the reasons, and then just made the same crass comment again.

So considering your level of thought and consideration its just a good job people like you arent the ones choosing mods, which kind of sums up what would happen with the nominations idea

Clearly you want an arguement. I know that mods have duties outside of this but 'bleu'. I have contributed way more to this site and have seen how inactive mods are and believe a change is in order!

I agree nominations would not work, for the simple, realistic facts that have been mentioned.

It is a good and fair point to raise but you have to earn the right to moderate this site and those moderators that may seem are not online often enough have obviously done that and deserve to stay on that list, as Nick pointed out, there is no limit. So the people who earn that right, will get a fair crak at it, I would assume, and not the people who are around alot.

What difference does it make whether its an application or a nomination Kris? At the point Nick and Admin decided they wanted a mod they would have a shortlist of nominated people from which to choose the most suitable (or they could choose their own nomination). They are then in a position to offer it to the person they see as most fit. That person may or may not accept the invite.

I see that as being more conducive to finding the right people than only relying on those that are willing to apply.

But anyway everyone has their own opinions

This is how I saw it.

Everyone Puts a name forward who they want as a moderator.
The people with the higher number of votes will get given the position.

I didn't see it as admins having an input, I saw it as everyone having a vote on who they think should get the job.

If you look at it like that, surely you can't say that it is practical?

No I agree that certainly wouldnt work - but thats not what i posted as a suggestion

I also dont think that many people would actually nominate - most people being ambivalent to the issue - but those that did would put forward some very sound people I think

They do a smilar thing on a certain rugby forum I use to vist often (Until I found this) With everyone posting suggestion and then the shortlist of say 4-5 people put forward to the admins and they then decide (they could refuse all) So I assume this is what you mean.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with the way it is.
But like you said there is not much difference just members having more of an input in the nomination case, which is a very fair point.

I'm neutral if it works like that as I think it's fair both ways.

Members do have an imput. They can nominate themselves.

I don't speak for the whole of the team here, but I couldn't care less if a few members think someone will make a good mod. It's whether or not a member thinks they'll make a good mod - they can portray that in the way they apply for a position, and behave on the forum and in game. Not that you need this explaining of course.

I don't think it's fair to say that Mods appointments need more consideratrion, not without you knowing the FACTS! Admin and Mods all do a great job, every now and then some of them will become busy - hence not them not being online. You'll see from Nick's explanation (if anyone bothered to read it that is) that we can have as many mods as we want, so taking away so called 'inactive' mods is totally against the point.

In terms of nomination... there is no point, everyone who fits the criteria is free to apply for a position, in which case putting themselves on the 'shortlist' mentioned. If they don't want to actually put in an application, then the chances are they are either not interested, or not all that suitable for the job.

As for inactivity, if admin think they are too inactive, or are not fufiling the necessary standards... then they will most probably demote, so the mods that are there, but 'inactive', are obviously doing something right!

I'd just like to point out, this already happens. So no worries there.

This is the sort of thread that could go on and on forever theres a complaint button if anything ever goes wrong when theres no mod online. so you might aswell cap it really in my opinion
