OK, can you try using a longer cue stroke? Maybe half a cue distance, and tell me whether that is more consistent? The longer the cue action the more accurate the speed measurement is.

Ok just played 9Ball And UK8 Ball on practice and its as though its not smooth, like i have programmes running. its 'jumpy' like there bouncing. It used to be smooth as a babys bum :)

OK, but there's 2 changes.
1) The animation frame rate increase - this is causing the jumping
2) The lag attempted fix
Both are worse for you?
But if I restore, it wont be yesterday's version, it will be the one before that.

Exactly how I feel, the balls are jumpy and aren't as smooth as normal when travelling across the table. It appears to have created more lag, think you need to revert back to before Nick.
Is the version before last much different from the last version itself?

Think it needs reverting back to before. No - one is benefiting from it.

OK. Please try these when you have time:
http://www.poolgame.co.uk/uspooldemo/1/
http://www.poolgame.co.uk/uspooldemo/2/
http://www.poolgame.co.uk/uspooldemo/3/
For a fair test ensure you don't have any other games running at the same time.

First one for me too. Works like the one i'm used to.

Thanks, that's interesting and I think I understand the issue for both of you. Seems your PC is getting what you have learnt to be the correct power *only* when your PC is busy. What you experience as lag is when the game is using less processing power.
Anyway, you don't need to understand all that. I'll knock up another demo and we can see if it helps.
And which animation was smoothest?

I just tried the 3 of them demos and they are all better than what i have at the moment, 1 and 2 are the better ones tho, i was starting to doubt my eyes the way my white is moving.

Made some tests too Nick - all three run more or less smooth for me with no power issues at all. In terms of graphics tho, #2 is definitely the worse of the three, unsure what the deal is between 1 and 3 tho, they both seem pretty good to me.

Oh that makes no sense
Number 1: same animation as now, cueing as before
Number 2: same animation as now, same cueing as now
Number 3: animation as before (lower FPS), same cueing as now

to throw in another set of tests- this is my opinion on the 3 demos.
Number one: It runs a lot smoother but as the balls stop rolling (slow down) they seem to judder a bit. If you purely look just at the ball that is slowing down, it looks like a set of pictures as opposed to video (or whatever it is!)
Number 2: cures that problem with number one (for me) but the table seems really fast/slick for want of a better word.
Number 3:is back to the problem in number 1!
Ima do a test of putting the ball on the line and hitting it at same place at same speed on each table and see what happens
Placing the white ball on the white line, i hit it max power at the opposite side (ie bottom mid to top mid)in the same spot. 2 and 3 are identical for position but 1 is definitly faster there!
When i do it from the middle of table to right hand cushion with very little pace number 2 is faster.
Im confused, does this mean that on slow shots the table reacts differently?
Or more likely- are my tests not very conclusive!

according to mmt 1 and three have the same problem yet dont share same animation/cueing yet a mix of both cures this
inconclusive
worst thing nick could've heard

Yes, it's all very inconclusive.
I will simplify the tests to a single attribute at a time.

OK slightly different power changes to test "lag":
http://www.poolgame.co.uk/uspooldemo/1/
http://www.poolgame.co.uk/uspooldemo/2/
http://www.poolgame.co.uk/uspooldemo/5/
Demos: 1, 2, 5
The animation should be the same in them all!
EDIT: 4 -> 5

The only way i could recreate "lag" of this sort is to play the shot without drawing the cue back at all.
In that case, most power was with table 5.
However i find table 1 the most playable/precise, which is probably obvious.
I can't help but think this will be quite a personal case of "feel". By that i mean each user will have thier own "cue action", which will be linked to their mouse resolution.
It's unlikely anyone will prefer a change (initially) in that scenario. Not that it can't be improved for the first time (or generic) user, and let everyone else adapt.

I found test 3 produced lag. Test 1,2 and 5 were similar. All were nice and fluid. Test 1 and 5 being optimum. though it is like the 'coke' 'pepsi' test. Very difficult to decide. Just the order in which you test them can affect opinions.
5 seemed like the roll was faster initially and slowed down more gradually. But its diffucult to say whether that was my imagination or not!
