Don't know Dave. You're getting excited over a past it striker who was overrated in the first place.
Teale could be a good signing. Graeme Smith is your best signing so far imo.
Thommo will show 100% commitment for us, scored 4 goals in his last 7 EPL games for Burnley which was only two seasons ago, and considering the amount of awful strikers we've had (Hamilton, Burke, Wyness, Dargo) it's definitely good. Also, Burnley fans were sad to see him go, they believe he should have started more games and was much better than usual first choice Chris Iwelumo.
Graeme Smith is crap. More like our worst signing. Craig Samson is our first choice.
Teale could work out, it's exciting but he may turn out to be a failure.
Saints fans have reason to be excited, last season we signed guys like Gareth Wardlaw, Jamie McCluskey, Sean Lynch and Patrick Cregg. This season it's been Thompson, Teale, David Barron is back to full fitness, and Danny Lennon seems to have learned from his first (and frankly awful) season. Considering we always end 10th and 11th, we could make a real push for something better if we sign a good left back.

I did I think
St Mirren to get relegated...5 years in a row we've heard it, 5 years in a row you've all been wrong! We love it now, you will be right one day, but until then you shall continue to be wrong!
St Johnstone and Kilmarnock look pretty poor at the moment. Dunfermline aren't great either but everyone who comes up survives so I think they'll get 10th/11th, which any promoted club is pleased with.

St Mirren i have high hopes for next season, it's about time the likes of Kilmarnock or Aberdeen get thrown down to 1st division.

I have absolutely no worries about next season at the minute, we'll see what it's like 3 games in after we've played St Mirren, St Johnstone and Inverness though. I don't see any difference betwee Dunfermline, St Johnstone or Hibs. Kilmarnock are the poorest squad in my opinion but seem to have staying power. Could be any one of them.
I hope it's Hibs or St Mirren, St Mirren have been above their level for far too long now, big testament to Gus MacPherson. If it wasn't for Hamilton being the worst ever SPL team anyone has seen last year then Danny Lennon would have taken you down with second string Cowdenbeath team.

Graham Carey joins St Mirren - what a signing!
Great cross, great free kicks, great corner taker giving us a huge threat from set pieces - I'd say our best signing of the campaign. Delighted with this one.
I think we can get 8th, which is certainly better than usual and I'd be happy with that. Top 6 is too far off (old firm, Hearts, Dundee United, Motherwell, someone else) and I don't think we are good enough for that. But we should definitely survive. Hopefully we get a good LB signed up, and another striker who is good.
Col, SPL is St Mirren's level, so we haven't been "above" it Danny's signing policy is certainly miles better than last year, but tactically if he doesn't pull off a top 9 finish he has to go. But I have renewed faith in him after wanting him out at the end of last season.
Dunfermline will start well, have a major blip at the midway point, then do enough to survive like nearly every newly promoted team does. I think St Johnstone or Kilmarnock will go down, and I hope it's the Perth side, because it's a boring away trip, we have an awful record against them and I like the pies in Kilmarnock.

In terms of modern football, until the 2000's St Mirren barely at the better end of Scottish football, never played a game in Europe. Only thing the club has ever done is win a Scottish Cup in 1986.
Oh aye, newly promoted clubs generally do well on first season, I remember the 90's when there was a strange pattern of 1st division champions coming 5th then struggling the following season, happened to ourselves Falkirk and Raith. in succession I believe, maybe Hibs as well.

Scottish Cup win was 1987
1986 was the year that caused all the Hearts fans on Pie And Bovril to hate St Mirren with a passion because we lost to Celtic on the final day that season, which stopped Hearts winning the title. But Hearts lost to Dundee 2-0 that day when all they had to do was draw, something the more stupid Hearts fans can't grasp.
Saints have always flirted between the top flight and the second tier, not once have we ever been outside of the top two tiers. We've have some good years and some poor ones, but we are more a lower SPL club than a First Division side.
I'd have been too young in the 90s to remember that, but it makes interesting reading that since the SPL was established, only two teams have went straight back down - ourselves back in 2001, and Gretna who went bust. It's an amazing record for newly promoted sides, and it's why I always back them to stay up.
Bad start to pre-season for Saints with David van Zanten being injured early on against Ayr. Last thing you want at this stage when it's all about getting players to match fitness and getting the team to gel.

St Mirren were culpable in one sense in 1986 because Jim Stewart (their regular goalie for most of the season) was dropped and a kid was played in goals allowing Celtic to run up the cricket score required to catch Hearts on goal difference and surprise surprise Frank McGarvey (ex Celtic) was manager yet Celtic fans continually rally round with conspiracy theories and even Neil Lennon spouted about this rubbish last season. Sore loser and will never be seen in the same light as the legend that is SIR Walter Smith!

Nothing in Europe???? Didn't he take Rangers to the semi final of the Champs League (only to be cheated out of the Final against AC Milan by Marseille who paid off CSKA Moscow!! and they let them win 6-0. Didn't he also take Rangers to the UEFA cup final, Outside the top four in England who else (consideing the obscene money paid to the English Premiership clubs) has a record like it. That'll be no-one then!

Jimfaebod....
For your info Walter will be knighted for his services to football (and he hasn't covered up peado behaviour unlike another Scottish manager who many call to be posthumously knighted!!!) and the not so bright comment from manwee well lets just say I've probably been to more football games in my life already than you will ever go to!

How does that make you any different than him, or me, or anyone on this forum?
It doesn't, and your petty attempts to better yourself by claiming you have been to 'loads of football matches' doesn't really warrant an excuse for anything and quite frankly, i couldn't care less.
I've mentioned before you don't need to go to matches to be a hardcore supporter.
Wise up guys, this threads been a joke recently.
