Has there been any mention that he wasnt or wouldnt be knighted!! The comments were in response to your original post mentioning "the legend that is SIR Walter Smith!"

For your info Walter will be knighted for his services to football (and he hasn't covered up peado behaviour unlike another Scottish manager who many call to be posthumously knighted!!!) and the not so bright comment from manwee well lets just say I've probably been to more football games in my life already than you will ever go to!

Nothing in Europe???? Didn't he take Rangers to the semi final of the Champs League (only to be cheated out of the Final against AC Milan by Marseille who paid off CSKA Moscow!! and they let them win 6-0. Didn't he also take Rangers to the UEFA cup final, Outside the top four in England who else (consideing the obscene money paid to the English Premiership clubs) has a record like it. That'll be no-one then!

Walter Smith is a LEGEND and he will be honoured, not just for the achievements in the game but also for the way he has conducted himself throughout his extremely successful career. Your attempts to take away from the facts by attacking me are futile and his record of taking Rangers to the latter stages of European competition despite being on a comparitive shoestring, when measured against the teams Rangers competed against, are there for all to see.

Don't get me wrong it would be nice if he got an MBE or something, but not 'sir' as it is.
He has been a successful manager in Scotland yes. His name will live on for a good while. Though in England he failed...massively and was sacked from Everton.

He failed as Scotland manager did he, or as assistant to Alex Ferguson at Man Utd? Did you read Alex Ferguson's views on Walter as a manager before he left Rangers last season?
I'd rather (even though I don't like Fergie) trust what he said about WS than what a few young so called supporters say about his legacy.

An assistant at Man Utd is nothing to shout about managerial experience wise.

Was the Everton failure down to lack of investment against the big boys? If you can't learn from the best and Fergie is widely accepted by the majority as the best then something's wrong.
Another thing being an armchair 'fan' makes you of little use to your club because lets be clear the difference between a 'fan' and a supporter of a club is the vocal and financial backing that you give your team. They can't buy players with fresh air and the crowd can spur the players on to give a little more effort.....they can't hear you from your living room or the pub!
I would also like someone to quantify why they feel that Smith did nothing in Europe?

I find the fact that just because you can afford a season ticket, and makes you a better fan ridiculous.
Some of us can't pay in the high hundreds for a season ticket and that doesn't mean we're any less of a supporter as we buy the shirts at one point...or buy that odd ticket for a Scottish cup game, or even that ''legends'' DVD at christmas time.
And the lack of investment excuse is daft, remember he got to the UEFA finals with a budget team...?

To put Walter down due to the Evrton years is also ludicrous and so is the arguement about assistant manager, by your reckoning Mccoist won't have learnt anything under Smith...... well heaven help us for next season!
You are less important to the club than a season ticket holder ...... FACT! That doesn't exclude you from having an opinion, but then everyone is entitled to one of them aren't they !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, i said being an assistant manager was nothing to shout about. I said nothing to do with learning.
McCoist i hope will do well. But i have my doubts, just like a lot of people when a team gets a new manager, also along with other people who have high hopes.
You are less important to the club than a season ticket holder ...... FACT!
Well from now on i'll stop saying ''i support Rangers'' i'll just say, ''i like rangers, but i don't support them financially which just makes me a nobody''
To be honest, Smith didn't really have much to learn since he basically established himself in Scottish football by this point.
I would also like someone to quantify why they feel that Smith did nothing in Europe?
This is unarguable, Smith has a pretty decent record when it comes to European football (apart from Kaunas!)
Actually, this was proven years later that the match referees were 'rigged'. When it comes to Celtic (who i assume are 'any other club') So called rigs or cheats have yet to be proven thus creating....paranoia.
The End.

Dave, the day you stop learning is the day they cart you away in a coffin!
You can say what you like, I say that I say I support Rangers through good and bad and whoever pulls on the jersey is OK by me (if they try hard and give 100% all the better).

He obviously learnt enough from all his time in management to have too much know how for Neil Lennon and that was the important thing last season.

I wasn't arguing the fact.
Anyway...moving on to more important matters:
Injured defender Madjid Bougherra has been forced to return home early from Rangers' German training base.
The Algerian international has missed Rangers' first two pre-season matches against Sportfreunde Lotte and VFL Bochum because of a hamstring problem.
Bougherra is set to have the injury assessed once back in Scotland.
Stirling Albion's Scott Robertson has has been offered a full-time contract with Fram Reykjavik following a week-long trial in Iceland.
Manager Jocky Scott and Stirling's executive board have agreed to let the midfielder leave the club in the interests of furthering his career.
Fram Reykjavik currently play in the highest Icelandic league, the Urvalsdeild karla.

Realistically speaking what odds will the bookies give on Lennon making it 1/4 of the way through the SPL season without being taken to task on bringing the game in Scotland into disrepute? When is the first game at Tynecastle between Hearts and Celtic??

2nd October. Don't mention Balboa though. That will shorten the odds they give you
