for me its got nowt to do with them winning england because i wanted croatia to win

well if croatias defence aint that good hw come they won england then?

That's a question I was born to answer!!

England: 1 Scott Carson, 2 Micah Richards, 3 Wayne Bridge, 4 Steven Gerrard (c), 5 Joleon Lescott, 6 Sol Campbell, 7 Gareth Barry, 8 Frank Lampard, 9 Peter Crouch, 10 Shaun Wright-Phillips, 11 Joe Cole

The only one recognised striker on there, and that is Peter Crouch.

And also Croatia conceded 2 goals that game, going to lose most games if you concede 2 I'd imagine...................can afford to against England though.

Think I've answered that fully.

Spain are like out England team. Good on paper but don't produce the goods. I'd like to see them win it.

Same here. I've decided to make the most of the tournament and be Spanish for a month (I can't understand a word I'm saying, but got loads of San Miguel in the fridge and a giant Spanish flag for matchdays).

They're the biggest under-achievers of all time - even worse than England. In fact, I might be wrong, but I think they're the only team we've ever beaten on penalties (Euro 96). So, the stupid money's on Spain.

I've put a fair bit on them.

I think Colins summed it up. I don't know if you watched the game but it started with a howler from the keeper, or was the second? I'm not sure. Anyhow, England are not a good team, so no point in counting them as a challenge........ England didn't challenge the defence enough, and we just lost heart, no one really wanted it, so we lost.

You go with Croatia, if they win it, I'll take any dare that the most horrid person on this site can muster, I'll also do the same if Spain win, I am that confident that neither of them two teams will win the tournement!

(Really hope this don't blow up in my face, I hardly watch footy now, are Spain good?)

But Spain have been one of the favourites for the past 300 years..............

They really are England, only not, they're Spanish, so I suppose they're not really like England at all, cause I suppose they did qualify, anyhow, I've proved my point, I know I'm right and that's all that matters! **

Never understood this England as under-achievers. Semi-finalists in EURO '96, Semi-finalists in WC 2002. Can't remember the rest. That's awesome for a team outwith the world elite.

Probably true actually. 'Under-achievers' if you class 'achievement' as the too-high standards set by the English media, so fair comment.

Spain on the other hand, have had many teams capable of winning tournaments. I heard somebody say on the radio this week that, due to regional differences and rivalries, they've never really come together properly as a team, training and socialising in little clicks - all the Barc players in one group, Madrid in another, Basques another. But this year - there's apparently more of a team spirit amongst them, led by a friendship between Casillas & Xavi (no idea if I spelled those right). So maybe I might actually win a bet afterall. Mind, I've spread-bet, so I win big if Spain or Germany win it, but get most of my money back if it's Italy, France or Portugal. Have I missed anybody...

Money in the bank Martin. Bet Czech Republic win it now.

Never thought about the reason before, but that's quite interesting, loads of mixtures in Spain with Catalonia and Basques etc etc. Always just assumed they were bottlers.

Must admit Holland looked good.

France looked pretty poor. That's going to be the interesting group.

Very little can be taken from group stages I think.

Hope Romania don't go through, they make for boring games. Ideally I'd love to see Holland and Italy to go through.

Talk Sport various. Even a lot of bookies had Holland outside the main group of serious contenders. The moment the game kicked off and Van Nistelrooy had his first shot, I thought 'how have I discounted this lot.'

I think their odds will have shortened considerably after that game, so too late.
