WE WAS ALL NEWBIES ONCE, give them a break they only want to play pool like the rest of us

??? kev? noone mentioned newbies (cept colins and i think he was bein ironic) lol the example given was a 750 rank.

I was being sarcastic. I don't think people should be allowed to refuse to play certain people based on rank.

Me too.

I still think everyone should just play everyone irrespective of rank. And blocking people depending on rank shouldn't be implemented.

Actually I was talking to a newb today who stated his frustration at higher ranked players going into his room then straight back out when they see rank.

Got me thinking. I think a better solution to the problem. The ranking system could be changed so that playing a low ranked player is as much a risk as it is currently.

but how will u do that?

ok. say your a 720 and you walked into a room where the other guy is a 660 or a 650...would you actully play him? most people would say no becasue they are more than likely to win, they want more of a challenge.

so think of it from a person that is say...850 or 860. if they walked in on a room where the other guy is say...710 to 720, im sure that 8 out of 10 of them would walk out as well.

its because they want to play someone at their rank.

it shouldnt be like that, we all agree on that. but the way it is is the way it is. dont go changing it...it may get to complicated

not really the only time i wont play people below me is in us9 cos of how lucky it is.

but if the rank was to change i would rather play a lower rank than higher if we got the same points

if you got the same points, yes. becuae they are obviously newer to the game or are really struggling if they are of a real low rank of 660 or so.

but thats why we have the ranking system that we have today. if you lose to a newbie, you lose more points. lose to a higher rank, you lose more than half the points for losing yet gain a few more for winning over a higher ranked opponett.

that is the beauty of funkypool. there are the really good players and the really bad. but if a really good player were to lose to an average player, the average player reap the benifits and the higher oponnet sufferes a bit. but on the flip side, idf the expected were to happen (higher beat smaller rank), the hiugher rank dont make much at all and the lower rank wont lose much because they had a go.

thats the mentality of the better players. like i said, its a shame, it shouldnt be that way but thats the way most of the good players go about things. now is the worst time to join funkypool...

I'm 860 and I would play a 710 or 720, I don't like the risk, but I still think we should be playing everyone.

Eliminate a good part of the risk and more people will which would result in the overall standard of everyone increasing.

Unsure how to do this. Maybe bring tighten it up a bit. Lose less points against a low rank and win less points against a rank much higher than yourself. Makes it very near impossible to get into mid-900s but that doesn't matter.

I think it's a continuing problem of high ranked players not wanting to play low ranked players. I understand that some people want to play people close to them, but I still think most are just trying to protect their rank (which is just a number floating about the web).

yeah...im flumpy if u didnt know. this is what i said above. im not allowed to post with flumpy...not ment to.

this is what i said
-----------------------------
but like i said, and you basicly repeated what I said in a few of those sentences. Some people like you will play the lower ranks but again, like I suad, you said that other people around your rank wont play those 720's.

except for maybe a few lines...u said what i said

What you have to remember is that the ranking system is already designed to average out the amount of points you win/lose over a number of games.

(this is for established players, forget the newbie thing, remember there are adjustments for them already, so its a moot point)

Lets try this :

rank runs from 500 to 1000

Therefore, a player on 750 should be twice as good as one on 625.

If the player on 750 wins, they will recieve between half and a quarter of the rank that the 625 player would if they won.

BUT someone twice as good, should be winning 3/4 of the games, at least.

Making sense yet?

Of course you will always have people who take one look and wont play for whatever reason.

Sure, even myself if i walk into a game with a 600 ranked player know that i'm likly to win, but why should they be denied the chance to play?

Instead of thinking "i need a challenge" and leaving - make the challenge to yourself to beat them for 5 straight games for example

As for a overall solution - i have often suggested that rank should be hidden altogether until a session was over. Thus eliminating any worry over what's won or lost

I know the current system and how it works and logic behind it. No need to be patronising.

I still think that the ranking should be changed to encourage higher ranked players to play the lower ranked players, there is no point playing them when you can either win 0.3 and lose 5, that, to me, looks like a problem that should be addressed.
