NOOOOOO

They've changes the points system so that the world champion is decided my the most wins, not the most points. So somebody could get 17 second places and not be world champion

EDIT: Actually, now that i have got over the initial shock i suppose there may be some better racing to get the win instead of sitting pretty in second/third place.

Yeh true, cou could win 7 races, not finish the other 10 (or finish last!), and you could be World Champion. Wheres the sense?!

That's poor.

So how are other places decided? What do you get for 2nd and 3rd, other than a trophy?

All places, apart from the championship winner, will still be decided by points.

They've totally messed it up then. Points make sense, whereas the driver who wins most races would probably end up with the most points as well, unless the title challenge was really close.

Stupid move.

I dunno, I quite like it. As dr_lovepump said, it will encourage more positive driving, and I'm sure we will see plenty of different winners with more drivers making mistakes, being more positive etc.

I'm skeptical with the decision on points, don't think it is the best idea. Could be good but I ain't so sure. Better come down to the last race of the season like the last 2.

I think this can be summarized into a single word: ARGH.

Bloody stupid.

It's basically a 10 race season (first person to win 10 races out of 18 i think this year??)

They haven't ever done this in the history of Formula 1, all the way back since it began, they've ruined a fantastic season already.

Some might say "Oh it might play out to be exciting" well, it won't. Ever.

The points system was fine! why the need to change it to most wins? Podiums won't mean anything now along with the other 7 points scoring positions.

That's totally ruined Formula 1 now. What a joke.

In all fairness, the point system could suffer from prematurely deciding the champion too, but this makes it all the more likely to happen for sure.

We'll just have to hope it doesn't.

And hopefully we'll see far more than just two contenders for the win in any given race.

John, i saw you mentioned consistency deserves rewards...well, it does with the old points system, the person that consistently scores points is bound to do well.

I just think it won't be as exciting as it used to be...

The FIA are now saying that they are willing to "backtrack" on some of the new regulations if teams are against them!

Doh!

Even Micheal Schumacher said it doesn't make any sense.
Stop changing the bloody rules, idiots.

Changing rules is not bad - IF it's for the better.

That's definitely not the case here.

Who deserves the championship more? The consistent podium finisher with few or no wins, or a driver who gets a win or two, but is notoriously unstable, scoring few overall points?

Consistent performance should clearly count more, keeping it possible to win the championship without a single win.
