Is it me or is the Monaco GP actually quite rubbish in terms of racing? Slow corners, lack of places to over-take.

From a strict racing point of view, the Monaco race IS rubbish.

It is not always very sporting and fair, often seeing the better drivers torpedoed out of the race by some rookie messing up.

It is not safe - and wouldn't been anywhere NEAR approved had it been a new circuit applying to enter the season.

It is not practical. It is not particularly spectacular to go watch either (much better on TV tho).

BUT!

Despite that, it's possibly the best race of the entire season, for so many other reasons. The atmosphere, the history, the sights alone, turn the race into something no other circuit will ever achieve.

It's quite simply special. For better and worse.

Yeh i agree, Monaco is a fantastic race. Formula 1 wouldn't be the same without it.

If anybody is interested in going, there is a yacht hospitality ticket on ebay just now for £2995.00?

That the lovefloat Doc?

Even though he is a former World Champion, why do I think of Kimi Raikkonen being the rookie last year when he smashed out Adrian Sutil (was gutted for the Force India driver)

Yeah, that's a typical, sad example of the downside of that race.

The Schumacher episode is yet another example, although that has more to do with a driver that should never even been given a license than the track as such.

I don't care who's quickest, as long as it isn't bloody McLaren.

I miss the days of Coulthard and Hakkinen.

Hmm, isn't that kind of contradictory?

You (as we already know) hate McLaren, yet miss two of the better drivers from that very team?

I'm confused

I actually adored Hakkinen, what a driver.

As for Coulthard, i tend to support a fellow countryman.

As for being a Ferrari fan, Yes i would say so, Raikkonen and Massa are great drivers.

Hoping Raikkonen has a bit of a better season this time.

No Scotsman to cheer on now, you'll have DC in the commentary box instead though

Ach well, not a big deal, not many Scotsmen making a big name in Formula one, except Coulthard and Jackie Stewart.

I might as well mention Allan McNish...hopeless as he was in F1, he's making up elsewhere.

Can't say I like Ferrari, after the farce they made of Formula 1 with the Schumacher-Barrichello days with letting the other win stupidly, making a mockery of F1.

Then it was THEIR engineer that gave McLaren documents where McLaren got penalised with, Ferrari got away with it.

And then last season, where a lot of FIA decisions going in favour of Ferrari and against McLaren, like Spa when Hamilton overtook Raikkonen fairly, but got penalised allowing Massa to win. Valencia when Massa wasn't penalised for cutting up Sutil in the pits. Too many to go on about though, Ferrari were backed by FIA but thankfully they didn't win, FIA won the constructers though

totally agreed and i cant help but wonder if this was because f1 was going to have there first black champion.but am sure it would be different from this season hopefully as there were a few occasions where hamilton was penalised unfairly imo

Im another that has converted from Mclaren to Ferrari in the past years mainly because someone i dont like left ferrari and someone i dont like joined mclaren

I think this year my support is going to move from Coulthard to Webber/Vettel. I drink too much Red Bull to change loyalties Although im not too sure if i should call them Red Bull. I mean they are powered with a Renault engine...

Ferrari has made a number of retarded moves during the later years of F1, but if you are referring to team orders, I disagree with you. F1 is first and foremost a team sport, and secondly an individual one. Team orders can never be prevented anyway, and personally I think it's wrong to try to forbid it in the first place.

It's easier to like Ferrari with Michael gone for sure, no argument there. Like you, I expected to gain some sympathy for the team when Raikonnen joined, but never really happened. I guess that red color will taste wrong for a few more years still. So much bad history there I don't even know where to start.
