good point this is why there should be a code so people can't enter under a certain rank as suggested by magicblack.

And before people say im to "rank happy" it has nothing to do with that i just want a challenging game.
And spinner i take your point that a 675 has the right to want to play a 800 but surely a 800 has the right to wantto play someone over 800 too?

Here is what the charter of human funkypool rights says, cos I wrote it:
- A 675 player has the right to play an 800 player.
- An 800 player has the right to refuse to play a 675 player.
The point being made by some of the people here, I guess, is that they'd like to turn down lesser-ranked people before they enter the room. Am I right?

- An 800 player has the right to refuse to play a 675 player.

Yes you're right.
However i have suggested that having a players rank displayed would be a compromise as then people who are picky about who they play can then chose to play those of suitable rank, without a restriction being imposed.
Also, displaying a persons rank in the game room as suggesteg by Magicblack initially would be much easier to code than a restriction!
Nick mentioned a while ago that he would like to have an option where you could search for players of similar rank to play, so that alternative might already be in the pipeline..

Spinner, this would solve half the problem. It means you can join high standard games. If none are available, I create a game. We're back at square one.
Theres a big difference between a compromise and solving half a problem...

I know what you mean magic, but i'm also bearing in mind the effect it can have on the ranking system and the availibility of games.
These days you have to wait for ages to et a game atall let alone one with a certain rank of player!
However, as opposed to having rank displayed only in the game list, how about having rank displayed next to the players name wherever they are, therefore you could invite people of suitable rank to play.
Not as clean as Nicks idea but similar.
Lets not forget, i was one of those who suggested having a rank restriction on one of the early threads and was downed for it bigtime! As said before, it clearly wont happen after all these years unless we can find a way to make it more practical.
Thats why i suggested using win percentage as opposed to rank in the other thread, it lets you pick players of similar skill, regardless of rank, and so therefore people get the challenge they want but it doesn't adversely affect the ranking system.

Well thats what its there for!
Magic - so Steven Henry wont play you? Wonder why... maybe its because he wants to limit who he plays by some kind of ranking system..
Hmmmm, see what you mean, you really should have the right to play him, or indeed anyone, you like.

No that would be stupid. Then the standard of the whole sport would go down, because he wouldn't get any practice, and neither would any of the pro's.
You really shot yourself in the foot there buddy!

Not at all.. i said he could play everybody, you, Steve Davis, Ronnie o Sullivan (if he hangs around long enough) so he would improve due to playing a wider range of players.
So you get what you want, he gets what he wants, and everyne is happy
(what does the standard of the sport have to do with it, please try to stay on topic or the mods will get on to you..)

You have spinner! Why are you so against the idea? And can you please answer that because you seem to be the only person who's so against it!
You bang on about players having the right to play who they want, and they do in tournements or friendlies! But in ranked games it should be upto the player who's set the room up as to who he plays! And it's VERY CLEAR this is not the case as lower ranked players come in on bigger ranked games!

Well, i decided to try it again just to see and : http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/2025/clipboard01lo1.jpg
(posted link as image is quite big)
It just doesn't happen, plain and simple. (I know Magic can check my game logs and verify this)
As i said before, dont forget i was one of those asking for limits a long time ago, admin explained it wasn't necessary, i started out to prove them wrong but ended up proving myself wrong.
Hence why the next few times i suggested some way of restricting opponents via skill rather than rank, but still to no avail.
Not sure what you mean by being able to chose who you play in tourneys 1_eye.. you've lost me there!
