I wasnt 'pointing the finger' at you. i was just merely voicing an opinion generally in the discusssion
and stevo mine was allowed because it was added before the 'ruling' was applied, i will however attempt to have it re installed as soon as im back in work, cos i mistakenly tried to have a different animated giff in, but i doubt they will let me

I Wonder if staff can un-animate them then as before they accept them??
Just a thought

I think they would be nice, anyway if the staff change their minds there is something you can do if you find animated gifs annoying or distracting.
Internet Explorer Users:
go to Internet Options < Advanced < Multimedia
unselect Play animations in web pages.
Firefox Users:
go to about:config
set image.animation_mode to none.
Hope this helps

quite easy to un-animate a gif, but why not just upload a static one to begin with!
It is a true fact that its up to a user when using any browser whether they view images, animations, sounds etc etc, so if someone dont like em, they dont have em activated.
No need to remove the option for everyone. If you get someone complaining that its distracting then simply politely remind them that they can be turned off.
At the end of the day, they can be no more distracting than an advert... (especially since they aren't even displayed on the same window!)

How do i un-animate it then spinner, before i upload it in my profile?

Simplest way without using any gif animation software is to load it into paint, and save-as > .jpeg
Though that will just give you the first frame.
There are plenty of gif animation freeware progs if you want a specific frame though, however if you have XP, then windows movie maker will let you save any frame of anything!

I think the best point has just been made, i can't see how this can be argued!

*Awaits martin or magicblack's reply with a rye smile on his face*!
But in all seriousness i think you should perhaps reverse your decision with the evidence that we have got! Obviously what you say go's and we have to respect that but i feel a very valid point has been made!

So, now that we have established that animated gifs can be disabled it could be argued that it's unfair to take the option away from everyone,
Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee can we use them?
I may melt if refused!
Im just wondering if the mod/admin debate on animated gifs stretched to naked mud wrestling

Ok, then explain simply and plainly why animated adverts are (by association) not deemed distracting depite being displayed on the actual game window, whereas animated user images which will always be on a different window (beit forum or PM box) are.
I'm not picking a fight, i just want the simple explaination
Edit - note the that the fact the ads help fund the site is irrelevant here, it is simply an issue of how one can be distracting and the other not..

Like i said before i do not make the rules i am just stating that they are not allowed with no exceptions, so what is the point in argueing that?

This is just a personal opinion but I would say that one ad, doing one thing, is less distracting than a number of gifs all doing separate things at the same time.
Regarding the ads that you don't want me to mention - they serve some purpose where as the animated gifs don't.
Also, the fact that animations can be switched off was already known when the decision was made not to allow them. The point is that they still have to BE switched off, which is added inconvenience - it's straightforward for some, for others it's not.
