New challenge but he does love a challenge, I think if anyone was to keep them up it would be him. Can he do it in time? I think the appointment has been made while Newcastle still have things in their hands. Stop the rot in the derby and things will look brighter. Tough to say who will drop now, I've changed my mind a few times between Sunderland and Newcastle. Now I couldn't pick.

I think how Steve McClaren has been treated is totally disgraceful and disrespectful. I personally think it's too late an appointment for Rafa Benitez to keep Newcastle up.

David Moyes, Harry Redknapp would have been better appointments imo. Harry having the knowledge about the Championship with QPR would have been more ideal so he could challenge straight away next season.

McClaren has been treated far better than Van Gaal, he was terrible at his job and he was deservedly sacked. There was no argument for him staying. He fell drastically short of his target, at least twice that of Van Gaal and only Mourinho has fell shorter recently.

Redknapp has left every prem team he has managed in a mess apart from Spurs. Plus he doesn't have a particularly good relegation record. Moyes would be a good choice, but I think Rafa has the better defensive organisation and is the more positive signing. A bit like the Klopp effect, he could lift the team. 1 point from safety, the relegation battle is in full swing. McClaren didn't have great coaches, Rafa will bring in some good coaches.

It sets up the biggest Tyne Wear Derby for a while, could be a relegation decider at the end of the season.

Great point for Norwich today - City dominated but did nothing with the final ball.

City as Champions - hmmmm still possible but I think it's a tall order now. They needed the win here.
