I have to agree with Phil, Liverpool are no longer a massive club. They are a big club due to their history but not for their recent past.

What have they won in the last 10 years? 1 Carling cup? that's not a massive club trophy cabinet.

They are getting a manager in Klopp though who has history of bringing a struggling big club back to their glory with Dortmund. He helped Dortmund without spending big money as well. I read somewhere that since 2005 Dortmund have only spent 50M euros on players so he has good scouting staff. Spending something like 4.3m on Lewandowski and similar prices for players like Hummels and Gundogan.

While he was at BVB he also wanted to buy Benteke and Firmino so he may be able to get great things from them.

I also think he will try to bring through more youth players up the ranks given his history at BVB.

Its the history that makes Liverpool a massive club , just need the right manager this time to lead us to glory again and good signings this time . Players like benteke and sturridge i can see doing well just need better defenders to allow our attacking midfield players to go forward and assist our forwards .

Fingers cross good things are ahead :)

Cant live in the past all the time though. otherwise id still be in love with David O'Leary and Leeds would be in the champions league. Or perhaps Don Revie would still be manager

Klopp will probs sort the defence out, if he got Durm, Piszceck or Hummels to join Liverpool I think id burst with joy haha (especially Hummels) BEEASSTT!

Are you not excited by the prospect of Newcastle vs Liverpool on Sunday given the two clubs forms?

So we're approaching the halfway mark for the season, and I think now would be as good a time as any to evaluate the performance of the big new arrivals to the premier league. Let's see what Funky's opinion is of the below players!

Anthony Martial (AS Monaco - Manchester United: £36m)
Kevin De Bruyne (VFL Wolfsburg - Manchester City: £52m)
Nicolas Otamendi (Valencia - Manchester City: £38m)
Bastian Schweinsteiger (FC Bayern - Manchester United: £15m~)
Pedro (FC Barcelona - Chelsea: £19m)
Yohan Cabaye (PSG - Crystal Palace: £10m-£15m?)
Roberto Firmino (Hoffenheim - Liverpool: £28m)
Memphis Depay (PSV - Manchester United: £25m)
Xherdan Shaqiri (Inter - Stoke: £12m)
Son Heung Min (Bayer Leverkusen - Tottenham: £22m)
Salomon Rondon (Zenit St Petersburg - West Brom: £12m)
Dimitri Payet (Marseille - West Ham: £10.7m)

Anthony Martial (AS Monaco - Manchester United: £36m)
: Started off well, think he needs more passes from his midfield and he'll score a lot more.
Kevin De Bruyne (VFL Wolfsburg - Manchester City: £52m)
: Fantastic player - settled in nicely and one City will reap the rewards from....more to come.
Nicolas Otamendi (Valencia - Manchester City: £38m)
Quite strong and proving a very good acqusition.
Bastian Schweinsteiger (FC Bayern - Manchester United: £15m~)
: Unfortunately recently starting to see he's clearly past his best and somewhat of a liability I feel.
Pedro (FC Barcelona - Chelsea: £19m)
: Is he still there? He started off with a debut goal since then done nothing.
Yohan Cabaye (PSG - Crystal Palace: £10m-£15m?)
: Strong, Resolute and a fantastic player - runs the midfield at Palace, like him.
Roberto Firmino (Hoffenheim - Liverpool: £28m)
: He hasn't done too much yet but with J.Klopp I can see him scoring and assisting loads.
Memphis Depay (PSV - Manchester United: £25m)
: Not been a very good buy yet - he needs to regain his form from his time at PSV or i think might be time to sell.
Xherdan Shaqiri (Inter - Stoke: £12m)
: Good player when at previous clubs - settling in at Stoke, think he'll be a very good signing.....unfortunately

Son Heung Min (Bayer Leverkusen - Tottenham: £22m)
: Spent way too much for him, he's a good player but with Kane and Eriksen working well together his playing time will be very slim.
Salomon Rondon (Zenit St Petersburg - West Brom: £12m)
: A good striker but I prefer Rickie Lambert and think he should play more. IF Berahino's leaving then they should try and pair Lambert and Rondon up ASAP.
Dimitri Payet (Marseille - West Ham: £10.7m
: Very good Attacking Midfielder, can see why he created the most assists in Europe last season. He was having a great season for West Hame very unfortunate to be rocked with a severe injury. (Cruciate Ligament I believe )

Agree with pretty much all of that apart from two players:

Otamendi: He looks a bit lazy at the back, doesn't seem too committed to playing for City yet and doesn't seem willing to put himself on the line for his team.

Son: Think with Son we've gotta remember he's only like 22! Also, a very versatile player, able to play LW/RW/CAM/ST so I think as the season go's on he'll probably fit quite nicely into a rotation of Kane/Eriksen/Lamela/Chadli! I reckon he'll be worth that and more in 2-4 years!

No surprise there but I think it's a stupid decision, who will they replace him.with apart from Guus Hiddink. City will offer Pep Guadiola the moon and back for him to go there next week. Ancelotti will replace Pep at Bayern Munich.

Was talking to my mate last night about chelsea and he said something like it would cost Chelsea £40m to get rid of him. Is this true?

yeah that's the rumored payout amount but there are reports he's wavered it and told Chelsea to 'keep it and rebuild the squad'. IF that's true then: What a bloke - can you see LVG doing that when he's sacked lol ....no chance.

I'd sack LVG and appoint Mourinho straight away tbh...C'mon Ed Woodward - follow suit and sack him NOW!!!

C'mon United!!!
