1b is simply 1a with something else happening after a while, hence why I named them like that. 1b starts off looking like 1a till it resumes Good to see support for the ladder in any case.

Option 3 involves this.
- First, there are two players on each level. The player at the top get a bye, and the players on each level play promotion games.
- The next week, the two players on the bottom rung play the two on the rung above them. The losing players get eliminated. At the same time, the players in the third-from-bottom level play those above them, and if a lower player wins, he goes up and the higher player goes down. This pattern is repeated up to the top, with the two players at the top having a bye if there are an number of levels.
- This will happen week after week, with two players getting eliminated at the bottom of the ladder, and the other players all the while trying to keep up at the top. It's as if someone is cutting the ladder off at the bottom, step by step, and everyone is fighting each other to remain as high as possible.
- When there are two levels left containing 4 players in all, you're essentially down to a two-semis-and-final situation.

Yep, that's what opinion is leaning towards it seems, that we just suspend activities and resume where we left off in September.

cphaynes vs tinie is the remaining tie for this week, and if there are any problems, they need to post here, otherwise there's an automatic relegation...

Another week over, and here are the results for Week 11:

Regular up/down games
beenjammin (1) 35-23 punkpoet (2)
beenjammin stays at Step 1, punkpoet stays at Step 2

cphaynes (2) vs tinie (3)
Not played

Promotion games
clooneman (4) 35-29 w_hoolahan (4)
clooneman is promoted to Step 3, w_hoolahan stays at Step 4

chris (5) 39-28 jose_enrique (5)
chris is promoted to Step 4, jose_enrique stays at Step 5

9ballsniper1 (6) BYE-WD theukspoon (6)
9ballsniper1 is promoted to Step 5, theukspoon leaves the ladder

So, the provisional ladder for week 12 looks a bit like this:

Level 1: beenjammin
Level 2: cphaynes, punkpoet
Level 3: clooneman, tinie
Level 4: chris, w_hoolahan
Level 5: 9ballsniper1**, jose_enrique
Level 6: theukspoon

9ballsniper1** is still MIA. In fact, if he's not back already, he won't be. We say goodbye to theukspoon to has decided to leave, and to 9ballsniper1.

cphaynes (2) vs tinie (3) - I find both players equally culpable, and anyway no-one made any effort to contact me with any problems, so it's automatic relegation. And using the rules set out in http://www.funkypool.com/thread/18323/straight-pool-ladder/12, the winner of the match below would goes up an extra level, and the loser would also goes up a level. This leaves the revised ladder for week 12 like this:

Level 1: beenjammin
Level 2: clooneman, punkpoet
Level 3: w_hoolahan, cphaynes
Level 4: chris, tinie
Level 5: jose_enrique

And then there were... 8. We're down to just four fixtures per week... Week 12's fixtures:

beenjammin (1) vs clooneman (2)
Previous meeting
Week 4: clooneman (4) 16-37 beenjammin (5)

punkpoet (2) vs w_hoolahan (3)
Previous meetings
Week 2: punkpoet (4) 29-36 w_hoolahan (5)
Week 7: punkpoet (4) 22-43 w_hoolahan (5)

cphaynes (3) vs chris (4)
No previous meetings

tinie (4) vs jose_enrique (5)
No previous meetings

Deadline: next Wednesday, March 21. Good luck!

You're right. I stored the data correctly, and I retrieved it correctly; I just made a mess of it when it came to simple copying and pasting into the thread! Sorry...

Previous meetings
Week 2: w_hoolahan (4) 29-36 punkpoet (5)
Week 7: punkpoet (4) 22-43 w_hoolahan (5)

There we go, 1 win each, and always the lower player.

beenjammin (1) 42-32 clooneman (2)

A great game, I will say that I had poor luck, and so did beenjammin with positioning, but I also played one of the dirtiest shots ever at 34-24 down and nearly got away with it...! I was faced with the pack of 14 at the other end of the table (it was blocking the 15th ball) and I just tipped the white. Beenjammin tapped the pack but a ball broke loose, and I got a run of 9 to almost commit the worst act of robbery. gg although not a classic, but a tight game and a cliffhanger.

I was thinking maybe you should have done the same, then I could have fouled again, and then you, and then I'd have had to play it properly or lose 15 points... Ah well, we'll know for again

The deadline remains Wednesday; looks like I won't be online again until Monday. Reminders will be sent then, although please remember that not receiving a reminder is never an excuse for not playing.

Happy St Patrick's Day!

don't like that method lol, as everyone knows i smash on straight except for break (only exception was vs rick in my first straight final). plus i find it unsporting too.

I don't see anything unsporting about safeties, it's just tactics.
On the other hand, I don't enjoy winning on luck, and a smash is hoping for just that.
To each his own style eh?

Don't get this post. What relevance to anything does it have what break you do dgen?

Anyway, if you do carry on with this ladder later in year then give us a message and I will hopefully join up again!

Well, the thread has returned...! It disappeared very early (GMT) on March 23rd, and some posts have been lost, but here's some of what I had saved before I posted and therefore the thread disappeared:

clooneman said:
Sorry for the delay guys, yesterday was a long, long day for me and I decided to skip the internet completely and go to bed. So, here are the results of Week 12:

beenjammin (1) 42-32 clooneman (2)
beenjammin stays at Step 1, clooneman stays at Step 2

punkpoet (2) 31-38 w_hoolahan (3)
winner is promoted to Level 2, loser is relegated to Level 3

cphaynes (3) BYE-conceded chris (4)
winner stays at Step 1, loser stays at Step 2

tinie (4) N/S-BYE jose_enrique (5)
winner is promoted to Level 2, loser is relegated to Level 3

Chris got in touch with me to say that he probably wouldn't be able to play, which is obviously a million times different than someone just not bothering, so kudos to Chris. Tinie has been offline for 9 days, and concedes his place to jose_enrique.

So that leaves the ladder for Week 13 looking very uncomplicated:

Level 1: beenjammin
Level 2: w_hoolahan, clooneman
Level 3: cphaynes*, punkpoet
Level 4: jose_enrique*, chris*
Level 5: tinie*

And I will be the first to admit that those asterisks and what they mean are getting a bit ridiculous.

So then, the fixtures for Week 13 are as follows:

beenjammin (1) vs w_hoolahan (2)
clooneman (2) vs cphaynes (3)
punkpoet (3) vs jose_enrique (4)
chris (4) vs tinie (5)

Previous meetings
Week 3: w_hoolahan (5) 22-35 beenjammin (6)
And no-one else has played each other, although clooneman 37-10 cphaynes is a result from the double elimination tournament, which preceded this one.

Deadline: next Wednesday, March 28th. Good luck all

I had that backed up from before I posted it, in case the internet misbehaved and I lost everything before I pressed Post. Thank Nick for doing the impossible and restoring the thread; once they're gone, they're usually gone forever and ever.

In the meantime, these games have been played:
beenjammin (1) 60-21 w_hoolahan (2) (approximate score)
punkpoet (3) 19-42 jose_enrique (4)

Leaving these games to be played:
clooneman (2) vs cphaynes (3)
chris (4) vs tinie (5)

Do to my imminent absence, the deadline for these games is a long way away, and it is Tuesday April 17th, giving everyone three weeks
