It isn't their true rank chris because not only are they taking 7 pts a game off people who do things properly they aren't losing anything when they lose games either.

But they would not be taking 7 pts a game off anyone, only gaining 7 pts a game which lifts their ranking points score higher. And in cases of so called fake newbies - the higher the score they get, and the quicker they get it, the better for all. They would also lose points when they lose as newbies do now anyway.

What I mean is with the newbie status now people are gaining 7 pts and losing nothing so the statement that there is nothing to be gained by resetting is false. Agreed though this way protects the people who don't reset and we aren't losing anything by playing these guys.
Taking it away they would lose points but because their rank is starting at 650 they would still lose less than 1pt and gain 7pts in a tourney and that would come straight off someones genuine rank.
It is a necessary thing

Sorry - but that needs explaining clearer to me please. Newbies do lose points now. The newbie modification only applies to the opponent.

Gaining 7 pts does not have to come off someone's genuine rank - as it doesn't now with the newbie modification.

Gaining 7 points if you have reset from say 800 to 675 is not really gaining either is it?

Didn't know that chris, can't understand people doing it all the time then.
Whether we see a benefit from it or not though there are a lot of people who reset constantly and taking away the newbie modification and letting them straight in tournaments would be bad for the ranking system.

Not saying that. I'm saying you enhance the newbie modification (ie added protection for the opponent) and let them straight into tournaments.

Allowing newbies into tournaments straight away even has the potential to work out fairer than the current system. At the moment a fake newbie must play 50 ranked (single ranking points) games before a first tournament. By the time they enter that first tournament they will probably still be ranked well below their true level and therefore cause damage to a higher ranked player they beat. There is no protection to the higher ranked player now at this stage.

By entering tournaments from day one, with double points available and protection for non-newbie players, by the time the newbie modification ends the same player should be on a far more realistic (higher) rank and able to cause less damage to other players. Thats the theory anyway.

i have an idea for the admins, instead of banning the profile which they will have to lose 'newbie' again unless chris's idea comes into play or you unban the profile at that point which then you should get your points back.

but i think they should be IP banned instead therefore keeping their stats and not having this 'fake newbie' experience of course they will still lose points (15 points max for 30 days, 30 points for 60 days and 45 points for 90 days) and they could gain that back in no time if your a good player.

I like the way newbies have been allowed into tournaments, it really does seem to have increased the number of tournament entrants. Unfortunately, it also seems to have increased the number of resetters (fake newbies).
The rank protection for non-newbies is a great idea, love it, but when a resetter has just recently lost their newbie tag, they can still be devastating to the rank of someone who hasn't reset.
My proposal to solving this problem is to increase the number of games someone has to play in order to lose their newbie tag. Now that they're allowed into tournaments from the start, I don't see this being a problem for anyone, just a little bit more justice for most.

i really dont know why people reset? what do they gain from it? i think this option should be taken away, and to stop fake newbies, increase the games to be played to 100, also yes its good the tournaments are filling up now, but i know at least 3 players who deativate and create new accounts every few days?
yes i agree with beenjammin.....

taking it away and people would deactivate accounts and start over, having this option means more accounts can be kept.

resetting can be good for some, a mate of mine on snooker did it for privacy, 1st time i did it was because i achieved everything i wanted on snooker and first feeling was it made me relax and not care for rank, i agree that if they do it each day is abusing the system but no way you can stop it either.

Make it so each ip address can only have so many resets, deactivations and new accounts per period say a 3 month period they can only have 3 of each of them.

Just an idea...
