This update allows us to have 2 alternative tournament types.

Friendly Tournaments
For those that wish to play tournament just for fun, and for newbies in an event who wish to gain tournament practice. No tournament win is achieved, no tournapoints can be won, and no ranking changes occur. Other achievements like run outs, golden breaks, wins and losses are still recorded. Failure to show still incurs a loss but no ranking change. In essence similar to friendly games.

This was suggested by eemad (I think) on the TournaPoints feedback.

Micro Tournaments
A tournament which is aimed to take 20-25 minutes including the reduced (2 minute) signup time. Games per round, shot time, and number of entrants will be strictly controlled for this aim. Like friendly tournaments a tournament win is not credited, however TournaPoints and tournament double rankings still occur.

Currently I am imagining something like a micro tournament half past each hour with about 8 players, but this can be tuned over time.

Super tournaments are still in the pipeline (this update includes some of the groundwork).

Additionally, the TournaPoints are not shown on your home page until your first TournaPoint is won, basically only showing TournaPoints boards to competitors.

9 Ball micro tournament test was 1 game per round, 8 players (3 rounds), 20s/shot and it took 15 minutes, so it was a bit too quick and I think race to 2 each round is doable.

So, I've scheduled a 9 ball micro tournament in: 9 ball, 2 games, 8 players (3 rounds), 15s/shot.

For 8 ball it's 8 players (3 rounds), 1 game per round, 20s/shot.

We'll keep an eye on times.

Just a idea, but as it's a micro tourny you could change the timer to 5 seconds and add more people? Just seems that a lot of people want the 5 second tournies and it would be fun to play with no fear of losing rank etc.

Problem is aswel that a lot of people will want to play these micro tournies and 8 people isnt very many when you look at other tournaments.

Totally agree with Kirk, that it would be suited to 5 second super speed enabling more competitors to enter..

This is a possibility for some micro tournaments - but the goal of the micro tournaments isn't to fit in as many games as possible. It's to play games in a tournament structure (with some tournament rewards) for those with limited time.

Actually, the invite time should be shortened for them too.

I think there's a couple of slight problems with them as they are right now - they will clog the tournament page, and they need to be very frequent. Maybe there can continuously be one available and they can start when they are full? In any case, we can see how they work - it's just a different option.

That would be a good option to have them continuously running.

Yep countinually running tournies are a great idea. There would be no need to include them in the schedule at all in that case - maybe just a basic results page which shows the type of tournament coming next?

I like the idea of the tournaments continually running.

Lets say the next tournament available could be shown on your home page as soon as you log in?
