Maybe consider running two events like James proposed then:
One for the best player in each league, and another for the top scorer equivalent.
Feel free to suggest names for the two

Proposal for new default system for next season:
Admittedly we have had few problems with defaults and arguments this season, but more so internally within staff than amongst the players in general....
However, I would still like to propose a radical, new system for next season, to finally remove all possibility of debate what so ever:
1: All guidelines and rules around how default results should be calculated will be removed
2: Each clan gets one voice on the default panel (typically the captain or whoever he/she wants to delegate to)
3: Each 14 days when we handle defaults, the panel will have 2-3 days to respond. Those who respond will be taken into account, those who don't will not.
4: The panel will input ONLY their suggested score. No reasons or thoughts around it allowed what so ever.
5: The final result is the simple average of the suggested scores, to be set when the deadline for input is reached.
6: We can still not input scores for our own clan's games.
Pros:
No room for debate what so ever. People propose a score, based on whatever sense of morality or fairness they might have, and we go by the average. One clan one vote. Simple.
Cons:
Less predictability for the players, then again that is also a pro since the system is harder to manipulate or exploit.
Thoughts please?

My Thoughts are:
1) The captain shouldnt be on the panel, due to having lots of responsibility, although it should be their choice from their clan.
2) There should be a vote on the panel after the evidence from both clans panel representives have been given, although the vote shouldnt include the clans representives on the panal.
3) Maybe a rule where only division 1 can vote on division 2's and vice versa, this is to stop clans being able to vote against their rivals/competitors that are in front or just behind them.

1: The captains are typically the more active people so might often make more sense for them to do it themselves... So I'd suggest simply leave it to each clan to nominate one person for the panel.... Whether that is the captain or someone else makes no difference to me.
2: That's how it already is. The vote is made in the form of proposing what score you think the game should get. Nothing more, nothing less.
3: Hopefully, getting many voices in total with smooth over any such biased voices. That's the idea anyway. The problem of limiting this to voting for the other division is that it will probably lead to far less interest, making it hard to get any votes at all.

I like the idea Jan, a couple of modifications maybe?
1. Captains are typically very competitive, and if the top two clans are fighting it out, and one gets a default, the other captain is obviously going to put a lower score despite the players. I would suggest the "panel" to be independant players of the game, for example clooneman, spinner etc. They have a great knowledge of the working, and would not have any favouritism to any particular clan.
2. Would the div 1 captains also vote on div 2 defaults? Or would it be kept separate? Because typically div 2 teams are the new teams, so the captains may be a little inexperienced. Having the div 1 captains vote on div 2 defaults would probably be a good idea
Hope i've helped

Apple:
1: True, independent people to handle defaults would been great, but kinda hard to find enough people that might be interested and consistently available to do a job they have really nothing in return for doing.... It would be great, but I don't see it as possible to be honest
2: I had imagined simply pooling them all together and giving input for all matches except their own clans, across both divisions. Separate pools for each division would of course be possible, but a crossed system where they only decide for the opposite division would suffer much of the same problem as point 1 I fear...
We could of course make this somehow mandatory and have point penalties for clans failing to do their "duty" as default inputters, but not sure that's too good an idea either - would certainly cause fuss.

Well the best place to start would be admin/moderators for independent panellist's but if it's not a possibility then it aint a possibility
Point penalties would simply cause trouble i feel, how many panellists ideally do you think would be needed? For example, if it's just 10 then pick the players that play the game regularly and also post regularly. Not all clans captains would be reliable enough to be chosen for what your calling a "duty" lol

First of all, I don't share the notion that funkypool staff are somehow better suited than others for this. Also, the few FP staff members I could imagine being up for this are also those already part of the league - which gives us no gain in terms of neutrality.
If we are to have no rules and no debate, only input scores and use the average, we need as many as possible to even out any radical views. And to get anywhere near that, we need at least one from each clan. That would be 11-12 as of now, subtract those who are part of the match in question (2), and those not present (another 3-4 at least) and you are left with not too many voices at all really.

Maybe 2 delegates from each clan
Split it into a division 1 panel (all delegates from division 2) and vice versa with a div 2 panel - to completely avoid any bias
Then an independant party - e.g. a league runner - individually sends the info to each of the delegates and then the average score worked out as jan suggested above
but to avoid subjectivity 'anonymize' the information
for example if the match was apples_back vs ab_rfc just change all names on info to player A and player B or whatever so only league runner (who isn't voting) knows which is which and the info is sent back to them

Anonymous game info is actually a fantastic idea and one that is technically readily available to us should we want to.
Only downside to that would be the need to hide any partially played frames and add to those based on the 15 point results people would be posting.... which is not a problem since that's the correct approach to the final score anyway.

maybe carry on with a 15 frame default score - change the end result of that into a percentage and then re-apply that to the remaining frames and round it
e.g. player A vs B is currently 6-2
default is given as 10-5
66.6% vs 33.3%
4.6 2.3
5 - 2
11-4 final default
Would be a possible way to get around it
or maybe just instead of doing a score do a percentage (for either all games or just partially played)
and that can be applied to the frames
