Snookering is as much a part of the game as potting.
And to answer your question; Why do people play like that?
To win.

i think the game would be more challenging if the hiding the ball is ok which in uk it is i think they should be a rule sense you say its harder than what i think i think ive played as many games on this site as anybody but to be honest i think the cue should have to hit a rail and than contue into a snooker thats tatics not just rolling a ball the cue behind another 1 its simple as i said hide the cue not trying to change site rules , just stating how easy its done its not very impressive to me and any normal pool player might have something to do with im from the stats good day and keep hiding the cue. oh ya this game isnt snooker its uk 8 ball thanks and have a gd 1 sry if not posted were suppoase to

A carry can be gained from an opponent fouling, there's the motivation for snookering.

I dont see much point in this, sorry. Its a tactic in a tactful game, if you dont like being snookered, snooker them 1st, not even to mention its not against the rules, i see many people say about this and i think they are sad that they lost, when i lose to it i see it as a smart way to win and more respectful of the player, sorry but snookering is a vital tactic i think.

It's the correct shot a lot of the time.
It's not all about the shot you are on. If you don't think you clear in that one visit then make it as tough as possible for you opponent, it's simple. Folk that moan that there is a shot are purely just showing a lack of knowledge of the game.

lol usa_rule throwing the rattle out of the pram again? Talk about the biggest sore loser on FP..mate, everytime someone snookered you it was a mis-hit shot and they got lucky..hope that helps your childish rant

There is no rule indicating that the cue ball has to strike the object ball, followed by a rail before leaving the cue ball safe. This is your own opinion and desire. I cannot see any rule change based on this personal wish!!
Leaving your opponent snookered in any way is a form of skill...
There are times when snookers are called for in all disciplines of funkypool...

Even Nick agrees snookering is fair. If you can get an uperhand in a legal way, why not take it?
Everyone's play style is different. The players who play safe, and the aggressive potters (and the ones in between). Both have their merits, both have their risks. A failed snooker will end up in your favour, while a failed pot will end up in the other player's favour.
Snookering well is a skill. You (probably) don't like it as you can never get out of them. Just practice on the tabel till you can get out well!
EDIT: You would HATE playing Onua, and look where he is!

usarule... look mate many people have tried to make you understand that this is how things are! Snookers are played all the time, its seems you are one of the few that despise them and think its not sporting.
You can and do snooker in UK (i wouldn't expect you to understand straight away as you wouldn't have played UK much coming from a country with different rules) also you can in 9ball which i know you hate (hence why many snooker you a lot) it might not be your preferred way to win but its a win all the same.
Accept it or else it's one of those things that will bug you for a long time.

Snookering is legal. Therefore, snooker and be snookered. And if I were to play you and you snookered me, and snookered me well, I would appreciate it for the good shot that it was. I have no problem with being snookered; it's very easy to make a mess of it and let someone in for a shot instead. In fact, some of the most skillful shots you'll see are escapes from snookers that either pot a ball (non-flukily) or leave the cueball safe, or even result in a snooker against the original snookerer.

I could be wrong, but I dont think usa is talking about legitimate snookers. He may be talking about the opponents tapping the cue ball a couple of millimetres behind another ball.
I agree, no skill in that.
In saying that, it isn't against the rules so nothing can be done about it.
I would class this as naming and shaming. If you cant make a point without resorting to insults, dont bother posting.
Same with you bobs_pride

but at the same time, what is stopping you from using the same tactic.
I try to pot my balls as fast as I possibly can. But when I come up with opponents like you speak of, I adjust to play their game; and I have beaten some of top 5 UK players probably back 6-12 months ago now.
If you can't beat them, join them.
