I think its more than a psychological thing to be fair - the difference is minimal but noticable - especially when you are trying to pot into the corners of pockets to create positional angles.
Not sure about Niall or anyone else but for me it's most noticable potting across the table in a North Easterly (lol couldnt think of a better way to describe it) direction into the top middle pocket. It tends to always miss on the left jaw. And also cutting balls into the bottom left or bottom right pockets. You can obviously adjust in time to get round it but the potting angles then dont look right on those shots.
I wouldnt have any objections to changing to two ghost ball cursors instead, as long as one of them was uniform in shade across the whole cursor (ideally the brighter white shade currently on the top and left segments of the current ghost cursor).

Don't know if it's just me, but every now and then it won't let me click the chat bar down the bottom to start typing.
No cursor comes up or anything, then after a few minutes it will be fine again.

I'm not suffering with any one shot in particular, it's nearly every bloody shot. But yeah, if one in particular was annoying me more than any other, it would be trying to cut the ball into pockets, I either completely miss it (playing it the way I would have previously), then when I try and adjust I catch it way too thick, it's just strange.

I experience significantly reduced pot percentage too, like many others, but I blame it entirely on perception issues.
I also struggle quite a bit with power control - standard seems more sensitive than before, and the alternate setting is so much less sensitive that it takes some getting used to. It's definitely the better setting, allowing more control, but always takes some time to adapt to anything new. It even takes time adapting to what you were used to, after trying something new.

The fact remains that after the initial update yesterday the old style cursor was way off. To my limited comprehension of these things this indicates that its something that is/can be subject to variation, especially as Nick said he adjusted back to how it was before. It may be very very close to how it was before but I firmly believe its not exactly the same. I also find it interesting that those with the higher potting success percentages are those noticing the difference - that could of course be totally coincidental though
I do think its more than just perception though but as I said before the angles can be adjusted and adapted to - however they just doesnt look right.

Remember it's the same cursor for everyone so please don't blame losing games on it.
Power control may be a bit different - the game has been optimized a fair bit and the power readings while lining up a shot are therefore taken a lot more often. Unfortunately, the power reading is strongly dependent on machine speed and current CPU usage. I'd like to fix this but tried before and it didn't go too well.

Not surprising at all IMO. Small differences, particularly when talking about an average across many shots, takes skill to accurately notice.
Not sure I agree. I keep missing too, more than before anyway, but at the same time I must admit I can't actually SEE anything that strikes me as wrong either.
Nick, a small theory on the aiming issues:
Could the new anti-aliasing coding, lighting or similar affect perceptions of the aiming cursors, even if the cursor graphics itself is still exactly the same?
If there ARE a technical difference making people miss more, it is most likely related to inaccurate ball contact more so than perceived angles. Even a tiny gap or overlap easily makes several degrees difference in resulting target ball direction, so this is where I'd look first - especially with ball graphics being changed quite a lot in terms of lighting/anti-aliasing.

I don't know much about java and it's general affect on the game, but would the latest version have any sort of affect on the cursor? I've been talking to some people who say it's the same, but they haven't downloaded the latest version of java, while all those who are suffering have done...maybe it's just a coincidence...
16:11 Tue 17 Mar 09 (GMT) [Link]
Yeah I never download new stuff like java versions (at least intentionally) as it normally screws my system up (I'm on vista).

Hmm, not just me so...
Edit: Again like other posts above, might just be perception and getting used to the cursor itself.

Just a note to say, basically, no.
I've been testing this on various versions of java on various operating systems.
From Java 1.3.1 on IE5 in windows95 to Java 1.6.0_12-b04 IE8 on Win7Beta, MAC OSX and DSL I have seen no variation in cursor display.
Nick's comparison shot of the cue's above is a good example of how much more detailed some aspects are.
Obviously with any major change, those who play at the highest level will notice things that "ordinary" players don't, but accordingly, those players will reap the benefits of a more accurate system in the long run.
Never forget, everyone is playing the same game.

I would like to know is it me or is there other players that find that the true line of aim is off a bit, missing shots and fine cuts that should not be missed.

when I'm in a pm and typing a longer message, where before it stopped you typing when you reached the character limit now it let's you keep getting, then when you send it the end of the message is chopped off...
Not that this will affect most people

Lots of players reporting the same.
My guess is that we don't have precise contact between aiming ball and the target ball, because of perception problems from "new" ball graphics.
Gotta be a perception issue - I keep missing to both sides so this is not a technical problem I think.
