say laddysaphire recieved two bonus points for every tournament win.

if you add up all of the OVERALL tournaments, she would have 1008 bonus points (as of 11.43 Australian Eastern Standard Time - 9th January )

on 8 ball US alone, shoe would have an extra 440 extra bonus points and only who knows how many more points if all games were ranked.

then there would be a massive...gorge as big as the Grand Canyon between very high ranked players and very low ranked players and nothing interesting or competitive.

There can never be "bonus points" for winning, or positions in, tournaments.

The simple reason for this is that there are only so many rank points to go around, so to speak. In other words, for someone to win points, someone else must lose them. Thats why the only way to have a rank reward for a tournment win/position, is to make all the games ranked.

Previously there was a suggestion of having a seperate "tournament rank", but thats just gonna be a multiple of tournament wins so is pretty pointless.

However, if you were to have a (tournament only)straight points system of 5 per win, 3 per semi reached, and 1 for a quarter final position, that could create a more competitive scenario due to more people being able to win something per tournament.

Interesting idea... Some might say though that that wouldn't be right cos a player who wins 3 tourneys and gets to one other final might have less points than a player who loses in 8 finals, depending on what exact scoring system is used. Plus, wouldn't it necessarily have to be retroactive?

By the way... the example you deacribed above: how many points for a losing finalist?

so is what your suggesting a seperate points system for tournaments only? I think that could work, then you can have weekly, monthly and yearly leaderboards!...as well as an all time board as well.

This makes sense, maybe to have a little extra stats box on your profile, named something like Tournament Points - where everyone starts on zero, then points can be added/taken away depending on the stage of a tournament that person reaches, say with -5 for going out first round, +10 for a win or something.

The only problem I see with this is the same as the old Killer points system, when the leaders begin to accumulate a lot of points, it would be very difficult for people to catch them.
