do you mean bonus points to add to your rank, "if yes" i dont think it would be a good idea, some players never win tornys so will never get the extra bonus points to boost there rank up, that will then put an even bigger gap between pro and lower ranked players in ranking

This has come up a lot with regards to ranked tournaments...

I dont personally like the idea, as only the best players seem to win, so only the select few would get all the extra points.

Tournaments are rewarded with a "tournament win" on your profile page... That's enough in my opinion!

A tournament game is never a friendly!!

tournament

? noun 1 a series of contests between a number of competitors, competing for an overall prize. 2 a medieval sporting event in which knights jousted with blunted weapons for a prize.

Therefore how can you say that all tournament games are friendlies?

I wouldn't say this is a good idea. Players who regularly win tournaments would be virts in no time.

This has been discussed a few times, and while giving away points for wins/positions can't work for the reasons mentioned above, there has been a lot of support for ranked tournaments.

By that I mean all games are normal ranked games. Usually this would mean the winner has increased their rank, though of course it would be possible for a high ranking player to actually have less points after winning, though this would be rare.

It would also be of great benefit to the ranking tables, as people wouldnt be able to pick and choose who they play.

if it was added into the game how would it work?

more players that join the tourny=more points?

If this happens, i'm positive a few 8 ball uk players would fancy there chances of winning ridiculous amounts of tournyaments for mega amounts of points. Myself included.

Its a good idea if the gameplay was changed, to make the game in general more difficult to play. Examples...

More weight - bigger table, small balls.

Different power generation, its SO easy to control the weight when you're using mouse.

More incentive to play aggressive. A stat on a profile just isn't enough to make me want to play for run outs.

At the moment, if this actually happened there would be 4-5 players winning every 8 ball tourny. Nobody else would even get a look in to be honest with you.

I'll put my post above in a more simple way - the only way this can work within the current ranking system is to have all tournament games ranked.

How about one or two trounaments of each game type are ranked, the rest as they are right now?

That stops the above, but still gives a reward 6 times a day, and 6 out of 24 gives everyone a fair crack to enter?

I know what you mean, but you are just winning a few organised and structured friendly games.

Its great if you won the tournament, but its not ranked, so why should you get points?

Friendly as in funkypool definition - a game between two people which is not contesting for ranking points.

I won two UK tourneys today and I am content with the wins just going in my profile, ranked tourneys wouldn't, in my opinion be fair to most players.

yea i got to agree with jimfaebod on this one. In my own opinion, a tournament is never considered a "friendly" because in a tournament your more competitive than a friendly match.

The thing I'm thinking is that the game would all be the same if ranking came in to tournements. As it is you can chosse to either play ranked games or tournement games, or both (obviously) and I like this.

The way the game is set up is so players can choose to play whom they wish for rank, wouldn't it then go away from the game ethic of players having the right to choose who they play for ranking points?

I think the game has a good holistic ranking system which should be stuck to. When looking at someone's profile you can see how good they are from both ranking points, tournement wins as well as all the other little stats on a profile page!

I agree with 100% of 1_eye's last post.

I find ranking boring the higher up you go as it gets too selective and points start to matter more (it's just a game!)

In tournaments, I get the peace of mind of playing friendlies and I like the challenge of whomever I am drawn up against.

And all the little stats on the profile page add up too a MASSIVE profile page. TOO MANY in my opinion lmao!

(How about a separate tab for each game type?)

i still dont think that points should come into tournamnets.

At the end of the day it is a friendly. It doesnt matter how you define a tournament game becuase its a firnedly, and thats that. And you cant say that you try harder. You never play a normal friendly and say 'i dont want to win'. yes, you are more relaxed and you may not mind a loss or two, but you are still there to win.

I think if your going to bring in any points into the tournamnet, then you must have all games ranked. And then it wouldnt be fair for those who cant get to the computer for a particular round.

If it was all ranked; then what would happen here - Say an 880 had to play a 650. If the 880 had a something else they have to do, are they going to give up....10, 12, 14 points becuase they are forefitting two or three games?

You cant say that there would be no penalty becuase they have forefitted and then it defeats the purpose of the rankings.

You either have all games ranked or none at all. I like the tounrmanets as its a no risk factor as you aspire to a new level in your ranked game.

I don't see how you can't grasp the fact that tournement games aren't friendlies? Just because there are no points involved doesn't make it friendly as there is a tournement to win!

When England play an Autunm international against Australia (rugby) you think they go all out with team selection and put life and limb on the line? You try things in a friendly that you wouldn't in a tournement or ranked match, that's the point of friendlies - to hone skills you might not have yet.

Anyway - we digress....... I will always feel this is a bad idea as it is in part taking away good game choice!
