When you can achieve what he has then you can say hes not very good, i've played him loads of times in tournaments and hes one of the best UK players i've ever played.

For the people who don't think he's very good why not try get that rank the same way onua has, I'm sure you'll find it alot harder than you think....

granted he is a good player, but respect his rank no. The mods and admins may do as they wish to my post as i am sure they will. when your playing a skill game against players who have the 1/10 of the skill you have and you beat them 10-0 on a daily basis of course you will have a high rank. Everything else Onua has done shows that he is an excellent player, but as for his rank its just not something that should be touted as a great accomplishment. If he played the players on the top 50 in uk then yes of course a great feat, but as you look through his results you see several times where his 7 or 8 or 9-0ed a 600s player. and as shown by above played a top player and won 7-4. maybe more results like those and he can be distinguished as the greatest "UK" player ever.

It's still risky, the ranking system is designed (and the help pages say so) so that a player x points ahead of another player will win an average of y% of games, and it all evens itself out. So it means that you will eventually lose against even the lowest ranked players if you play them often enough. It'll happen, and you'll lose a smattering of points. And then you have to play them loadsa times again to win them back.

Using the brilliant FunkyPool calculator, wherever that thread is, it can be easily shown that if a a 900 player plays a 675 player and wins 9 out of 9 but loses the 10th (in either 8 ball or in 9 ball), that player slumps back to 900.1 and has gained 0.1 points after winning 9 out of 10.

He is a great tactical 8UK player dont get me wrong, that?s why his rank and UK tourn wins are so high. The fact he plays lower rank players does not mean he is not good rank player surely. Isn?t the risk then higher for him eg. If he pots the black in off then the disadvantage would be he loses more rank points in that game and would need to play more games to get back to that point again. For someone to play as many rank games like all the top players do I think they deserve a pat on the back? I for one hate playing Onua because I know I can beat him on my day, but I never change my game to suit his play.

It would be interesting to know what the overall rank would look like if it was fixed so that you could only play other members with say +/- 50 points from your current rank, in each game type.

Only downfall off this is you might have to wait around more for a game.

Anyway I can?t agree with the title off this thread 'The Greatest' but I will say again a fine UK player

yeh hes a great 8uk player but i dont know about being the greatest,
yeh he achieved a great rank but how people can be called the greatest because they are top of the rank tables is a joke,
how can someone be the greatest ever when we have a rank system where you can pick and choose who you play,
sorry but I just don't rate the rank system.

Getting the highest ranking ever is a superb achievement. We've had over 7,000,000 games played in 8 ball UK by about 150,000 users with the main goal of most to top the rankings. So well done onua, certainly no small feat!

To be a top player, you got to be consistent, and no one can take that away from him no matter who he plays.

Undoubtedly one of the best, to say "THE" best is argueable

He's a lot better than I am now but a while back I think if I played him it would be fairly even. Same can be said about other players who's standard of play used to be higher than it currently is. As for current competition i'm sure there's one or two at least who can comfortably hold their own against him

If you are refering to me then I meant this. Would you have found him playing any of these players at 950+?

Also, on topic, I wouldn't call him the best player ever, UK maybe, however I've never seen him play before so I don't know.

Having that rank kinda suggests he is... so its a bit harsh saying that you "wouldnt" call him it.
