hey, it took me 6 months to get to my first semi final, 8 months for my first final and 10 or 11 months for my first tournament win. I havent been in a semi final for 6 or 7 months now!!

yeah, the competition is getting better; but all I can say is that you have to lern off the better players and use those new skills on the practice table, other players and sometimes that same person. I had to do that a few times and it paid off.

My best scalp was defeating an 839 and then an 844 in UK; I was only a 690, and I never try to lose a game....and I went on to win that tournament.

Practice does make perfect. Another tournament would take too long and then that takes another thing out of our wish list (like doubles, cut-throat etc)

leave it how it is, its fine the way it is. Just set small goals to get trhoguh each round; that how I won my couple of tournaments (a couple on this one and a couple on _flumpy_)

A Plate tournament wouldnt take too long as it would just run alongside the main one - could even be made shorter by making each match only one game.

As I said in my first post - i think its a nice idea but i doubt it would ever happen.

I have to agree 100% here with Chris, but i would say something like if you had a tourn with a random draw with the best players going into a pot draw in the game which could be based on tourn wins first or rank etc.. if they lose first then the loser joins a second tourn a bit like the UEFA Cup tourn, or maybe they are out and do not get the chance to enter again becuase they are supposed to be the better player in that game.. or even more what about you could use the same system with rank.. but i guess the rank system can be broken by fake newbies as previous said. my arguement with fake newbies thing is if they win then they would have to use the same system and it would catch them up eventually.

Another Idea!

Maybe a game tourn a bit like a golf game, tourns wins can be capped on a handicap basis and the better the player the less chance they get.. Anyway just a few thoughts

i see the point, the points you guys have makes me want to agree, but I just cant.

what would the winner of the 'minor tournament' win? would there be another space on the already very long profile??

i just think that there are other suggestions that need to be looked at and assesed first. I think that we need to find a replacement for mini golf as very few people use it any more (well, when i am ever on anyway...), and there are plenty of other ideas out there that I think that should be looked at first over this.

its not a bad idea; infact its a pretty good idea, but I dont like it!

the plate tourny is a bad idea i think, jst play ranked(or friendly) pool if you get knocked out early!

the tournys in pool are fine the way they are, the top pros wernt born as good as they are now, they practised!

i had a thread on funkysnooker trying to get handicapt tounys, that makes sence, people agreed but nothing was done!

I like the idea but i fink it just overcomplcates things tbh, i mean when you do get better and in a final ya can tell your opponent hey your messing with the winner of the tourny for less talented players oh yeah you should be scared, their is no use for it.

the biggest problem with this game is not so much skill but luck. we all have our up and down days you win some you lose some and that cant be helped. tournys are just one more level of fun to the game, its not always about being top dog anymore i guess cause somewhere along the line we are all in the same boat as each other it doesnt matter what game we are playing.

i like the idea of winning more tournys as much as they next but 'my day' will come like all the others. lets keep it the same and see what develops

I totally agree with james, its took me many many many games to win the very few touneys that i have won and i am very proud of them,if this did come into place it definitely would take the shine off the ones i have got as they are hard earned(not achieved through a newbie tourny)if there is many members agree with the idea of a newbie touny then i think you should arrange an unofficial one as this can easily be arranged as i see there has been many successful funky leagues which have been set up by members.

Tournaments are a test of skill in a friendly way, every player enters a tournament knowing there is someone good in there, so you have to up your game to beat them, i'm not the best on the game and i feel happy when i win a tournament because it's another achievement, a "sub" tournament wouldn't be an achievement would it? because you haven't won a tournament with any decent players in it

yep, fully agree.

the only way to get better on this game is to learn from the better players. and I have done that (to a certain extent) by playing better opponents. when i started, i could only get a couple of pots against them. now i can beat some of them!!

so dont just give up because you cant get past say round 2 - just play round by round and then you will see why some are saying no to 'plate tournaments'

It took me forever to win a tournament when i started, with the likes of Lars, Raiden, Player_x, Danzig2k5, Squuezy, Afey etc etc etc, but playing them showed me a little bit of practise and patience can make you better, Never say your not going to win one because you will, just you can't come onto a game like this and expect to win a tournament straight away, there are players playing for years.

You don't join a Real life pool or snooker tournament and win it in your first attempt do you?

Look at the FA Cup. A lot of the teams that you wouldn't think of as winners have had to beat big names along the way:

1987
Manchester United 0?1 Coventry City
Coventry City 3?2 Leeds United
Coventry City 3?2 Tottenham Hotspur

1988
Wimbledon 1-0 Liverpool

1995
Everton 4-1 Spurs
Everton 1-0 Man Utd

2008
Man Utd 0-1 Portsmouth

It's the same with Funkypool tournaments. Good players will fall, and lesser players will replace them. It happens.

Fair point bout real pool as i know very well but it would be an achievement for the likes of me just to get a win in all tournys although i did win 8uk tourny the other week yet its my weakest game so i spose theres hope still lol.

What I can't see is what is the point in a tourament for the less talented players, I'm sure it wouldn't take long for their rank to go up in a few weeks of practice.

And also this would encourage more new accounts to be made which means the higher players would end up winning anyway just on a new/different account.

If there was away to stop the higher players getting in like a IP tracker or something saying ''you have a account over 800 already'' But the negative is people in the same family just a lower rank.
