Practice, get better at the game, win regular tournaments? Things like this have been discussed many times, and the general conclusion has been that people will purposefully keep their rank low just so they can win tournaments.

well what about having primary secondary tournaments so people who are good would wana win the best ones and the people like me who will never be able to win a tournament might have a chance of winning one

I have to agree with iam. Some players may keep their rank low just to win those tourneys, and sometimes there will be players returning from bannings who would ease through a tourney like that.

Also, if there are players who have the potential to win finals (like me, except I've lost 7 from 8) and who barely play ranked games, then they could find that tourney too easy. It would possibly help players like me, when I really should have a higher rank. That would ruin it's point as that type of tourney would be meant for more inexperienced, struggling players.

What could happen, but probably never will, is that the first and possibly second round losers automatically get entered into a Plate tournament to run alongside the main one. This happens in some real life competitions - rugby sevens tournaments for example.

Don't quite get what you mean by it. But there are players who don't really care about ranks, but are definitely better than you'd expect a 750 to be.

It's a good idea, but it would sadly be abused too much.

heres an idea, add another thing onto ure profiles, and nt include the secondary tourneys on most tourney wins (find located in rankings)
but in all that would remove the whole point in creating a secondary tourney, because it wouldnt be worth while playing and it gives you nothing really to play for, so just practise practise practise.

The one about tourney for under 750s

As for the 1st/2nd round thing, it's also a good idea, although some top players do drop out at those stages due to playing poorly or being beaten by another top gunner.

Also, this idea wouldn't be very good for the late night tourneys (if you live around the GMT timezone). The 5am GMT would have like 5 players in the early exit thing :/

Yeh true but so be it. If a main tournament was easy to win at that time why shouldn't a Plate one be as well?

This has got to be a site people come to for enjoyment. There should not be a whole majority group of people who get discouraged from entering tournaments because they feel like they have no chance. Like in all sports you should have the chance to compete with people at an even level. And by that I mean tournaments with a chance of actually winning something as opposed to just rank games.

well i know im contradicting myself here by helping in some sort of way, well in my view lol
but a secondary tourney could be like every half hour and you could have so many entrants, wat ya think??

Just creates the same problem em raised - anyone can enter so she still might lose in the first round - and if you restrict it by rank you have the problem that yoda raised.

Assuming they DQ because they arent online then they wont be online for any Plate tournament draw either - if they are then they do get entered.

As for saying practice makes perfect - thats not strictly true - there are always people better than others. There isnt a great deal of practice, or more importantly fun, in losing in the first round every time either. One of the ways for developing play is to play tournaments with people generally of a similar standard. Hence why in football you have the Football League Trophy, in cricket the ICC Trophy, in Rugby Sevens World Cups the Plate tournaments, and in golf and tennis the satellite events.

Would work better granted if the main tournaments were seeded in some way.

Yup I agree with Chris, I've thought a plate competition would be good for first round losers, just for bragging rights and tourney experience for players that regularly get beaten early and not necessarily to get put on their records.

Real life english pool tournaments that I enter have plates, so that when I get beat early I stick around at the club to play in the plate. This encourages people to keep playing and get better rather than leave (people logging off in this game).
