03:52 Mon 24 Aug 09 (BST) [Link] yeah right - makes up a little for all the perfectly good goals scored last season which we were denied

So typical of Rangers though. I feel that if it had've been any other team - it wouldn't be a penalty.

If it was in the box or not, the foul was worthy of a penalty.

I know its old news now but i havent been on in awhile. As a Celtic fan i dont think Kevin Thompson should of got a red card. Yellow and a stern talk would've done.

Ayr United 0-2 Super Saints
Nice comfortable victory in the League Cup 2nd round last night. Michael Higdon netted his first goal for the club, while Billy Mehmet takes his season's tally to 6 goals, already half of his record last season. Saints will have it tough in the Third Round, being unseeded. We've had a few 3rd Round exits in recent years, our last League Cup quarter final was in the 2000/2001 season.
I think the seeding goes like this:
Seeds
Rangers
Celtic
Hearts
Aberdeen
Dundee United
Hibernian
Motherwell
Kilmarnock
Unseeded
Falkirk
St Mirren
Inverness CT
St Johnstone
Dundee
Dunfermline
Queen Of The South
Ross County
Only SPL team not in the draw are Hamilton, who lost 2-1 to Ross County.
Looking at the seeds, I'd like Motherwell or Kilmarnock. I have a feeling we'll be away to Parkhead though, as we play Celtic on the Saturday following the 3rd Round. Another humping followed by a win methinks

Kilmarnock 1-2 St Mirren
Saints completed the Ayrshire double with an undeserved win at Killie. Fell behind 1-0 after four minutes after Mair and Potter failed to read the link up play between Fernandez and goalscorer Sammon.
The first half was mistake after mistake for Saints, Jack Ross playing his worst game in a Saints shirt. Jack's troubles didn't help John Potter, who made his own series of errors. We were lucky to only be one goal down, and lucky Kevin Kyle was injured for Killie.
Saints scored three minutes into the 2nd half, Stephen McGinn with the goal. Killie continued to play better, but Saints were less error prone with Mair and Potter winning all the headers (finally). Again, against the run of play, McGinn scored after 68 minutes.
In the end Killie deserved a point at least, but it's about time Saints got a win they didn't deserve, it's happened the other way about a few times for us.
7th in the league

League Cup 3rd Round Draw:
Motherwell vs Inverness CT
Hearts vs Dunfermline Athletic
Dundee vs Aberdeen
Hibernian vs St Johnstone
Falkirk vs Celtic
Kilmarnock vs St Mirren
Queen Of The South vs Rangers
Ross County vs Dundee United
One of the best draws for Saints. Gives us the chance to do the Ayrshire cup double, while it gives Kilmarnock the chance to do the Renfrewshire cup double.
We have a habit of losing in the 3rd round. We haven't made the quarter finals (and semis) since 2000/2001, so hopefully this is the year we get ourselves back in the last 8.
That's all three cup ties this season being away draws, and now four League cup games away in a row.

If only 'Well had scored the penalty
Strange how they always seem to get a result against Rangers at Fir Park.

St Mirren 1-1 St Johnstone
Another poor performance from the Buddies, although not as bad as two weeks ago when we defeated Kilmarnock. We really need to get playing well again, instead of playing long ball.
Stephen McGinn played very well, and I believe it's between McGinn and Forbes for the August Young Player of the Month - I doubt anyone else comes close. Paul Gallacher was magnificent in goal today for us, and he was helped by the Saintees managing to miss three sitters.
6th place is great, although chances are once the other three games are played we'll slip down a bit. Improvement need to go away to Aberdeen next week though.

What a dodgy weekend for the Gers.
Lucky we didn't lose!
Lucky for Celtic too, Dundee were all over them at one point.

Glad Celtic got the 3 points but they played pants as per...
Glenn Loovens is good , prefer him to McManus and Caldwell.
The Hearts right back was great today cant remeber his name though.

Aberdeen 1-0 Saints
I made the trip up to Aberdeen. We played much better than we did against St Johnstone and Kilmarnock, but Aberdeen always get a late one over us. An 88th minute free kick from Mulgrew this time, with Lee Mair being sent off for a 2nd yellow for dissent.
Aberdeen have managed 5 late goals against us since 2008, each of them earning a win or a draw. A real bogey team, it doesn't matter how well we play against them.

Charlie Mulgrew's a player i like his free kicks are just about the best in the SPL.
I keep hearing how good Danny Fox's dead balls are but i've yet to see that.
Also just found out thought wikipedia because i was looking up Charlie Mulgrew that he was on the books at Celtic. Bad scouting there i think.

Depends what Celtic were looking for. Aberdeen fans don't think he's a great player, it's just his free kicks are sublime. With Nakamura playing for Celtic at the time, Mulgrew was never going to get in just for free kicks.
If Mulgrew was better defensively he could be playing for bigger teams.
Saturday showed the difference about free kicks. Mulgrew scores, Mehmet blasts it over. I wouldn't mind playing someone who wasn't great, as long as his free kicks, penalties and/or corners were excellent. At the end of the day, it can win a game for you, as proved at the weekend.

Kilmarnock 1-2 St Mirren
Same result as a few weeks ago, with St Mirren playing miles better than last time, and Kevin Kyle back playing for Killie.
Denied a 1st minute penalty which could have ended up as a red card, but the referee bottled it. First half was pretty even.
Stephen McGinn scored an excellent goal on 64 minutes. Kyle equalized on 87 mins, and from then on we thought it would go to extra time, and Kilmarnock would be going through. However, Andy Dorman gets his first goal of the season after good work from Stephen Thomson, and it means we are through.
Craig Dargo was magnificent. He skinned the defenders time and time again, the type of performance we've not seen enough of since he joined. A great game for Dargo. Paul Gallacher was excellent again, McGinn played well and David Barron had a good game.

Saw the goals from this game you're on about, seemed like a good game.
Rangers having an almost horrible backlash from their encounter from QOTS 2 years ago when they pulled 1 goal back and almost certain for a 2nd.
Rangers need to do better, they are slipping a bit...
