That whole post makes me feel good, because it was mostly about your assumption that I lost because I was outplayed, This is not true, however even if it was it really isn't relative at this point in the discussion. The fact you have brought this up shows me that you are starting to run out of good arguments against nominating the 9.
You said if you have to nominate, it will take away the flukeyness from the lower ranked players and they will reset. That's possible, but I beleive many would use it as an opportunity to play higher ranked players to learn and make new friends. It would be easier for them to find one to play becaue the higher ranked players wouldn't worry as much about the flukes. If you leave a room because a lower ranked player comes in you often get private messages saying how scared you are and things of that nature. Nominating the 9 would end that and bring peace and harmony to the world "of funkysnooker". The referenced opponent did fluke 7 times btw.

"He fluked the ball 7 straight times!"
Oh well, i'm sure you wouldn't complain if you done it...
...things like that happen. Flukes or just basically beat. Just need to keep trying to win.

OK, nice to see this thread calming down. Do remember to keep things lightsome.
It's perfectly easy to disagree with someone but be pleasant about it
Ok. Whilst the final part of that statement may well be true, please explain one thing :
How on earth do you stop flukes?
Do we have a button so that if your opponent is about to pot something you think they shouldn't be able to, you click it to block the pocket?
Makes it sound silly doesnt it!
Or, apply the same logic to any other shot - if you break and pot a ball, thats a fluke. So should all the pockets be blocked for the break shot?
What about when balls come to rest touching and in a plant formation? Thats luck isnt it? Maybe we should move them before a shot is taken?
Likewise if your opponent plays slightly too light and leaves the final ball in the opening of a pocket?
Hmmm, i think i've made my point now

It does just stop flukes, but stopping flukes may have added benefits. For instance, I'd be much more likely to play a lesser ranked player (and others would too) if it weren't as easy for them to fluke a win.

i see both sides of this one.....if you had to nominate the pockets then yes i would be afr more likely to play intermediates/adepts....as it is when it comes to 9ball i haven't played anyone who isnt a similar score to me since losing 1-0 to a total fluke and losin over 5 points a while back...lol
But as many people have pointed out over time the luck evens itself out so....

Didn't you repeat yourself in that post??
Spinner, If you read some of the other posts on here I have said the point is not to stop flukes entirely. Its just to make it less flukey. Many players 700 or less just flail away at the 9 on every shot. So actually the luck doesn't even out when a 800 plays a 600 because the 800 isn't hitting the 9 as hard as they can everytime (at least they shouldn't be).
Its easy to make this change, you simply put a button around where the flag button is for nominating a pocket for the 9. it could be a circle with a 9 in it. You click it, then you click the pocket you wish to nominate for the 9. So if a 600 uses the button everytime and flails at the 9, his chances of fluking it are cut to 1/6 of normal.

I wouldn't be happy at all to fluke 7 wins in a row. I'd much rather when by nominated combination or runout. If that didn't occur, I deserve to lose. If my style of play consisted of shooting into the 9 as hard as I could everytime I wouldn't play the game anyway as it wouldn't be a challenge. I think its selfish, greedy, and most childish for someone to celebrate fluked wins.

Well, the object of 9-ball (as this appears to relate to) is to pot the 9-ball. Therefore "flailing away" at the 9-ball is a strategy, and a very logical and sensible one.
But they can if they want. Moot point.
But surely someone of 600 rank needs all the help tey can get?
Seriously - flukes happen - so what! It's only a game, enjoy the surpise
If you would rather see a sterile game where everything goes your way and the player you like always wins - hey presto - Practice mode!

Why attempt to ridicule someone who can read and understand?
Apart from the fact the word "attemt" is required of course ;)

Spinner that was a ridicuous post. To say that flailing away at the 9 ball is a "logical and sensible strategy". If you believe that I have to seriously question the decision to make you a moderator. Flailing at the 9 is what's left when all strategy has been removed, that's the whole problem to begin with. Sure 800's can flail away at the 9 too, but they don't because they know how it ruins the game. I bet YOU don't do that. Even with nomination the 9 not everything goes your way. It just means you might have to have a minor amount of skill to win. I can't believe someone with your good reputation would post that. It was at best childish.
P.S. if you plan on posting something ridiculous like that again I suggest you cap it and remove my posting abilities cause I'll get nasty.

calm down mate. Just arguing with an admin wont help anything.
Spinner has come up with very good rebutles that I would not generally think of myself.
Like spinner said, if you want to make games sterille, fine, then lets do it. Not to mention the extra game time it puts on because there would be more respottings.
remember when I played you the other day in the tournemnt?
Remember, I had 3 flukes in those games and you still won because of my other mistakes.
Please, we are (or I am) reading your information. While some of your points are good, I disagree with most. Please at least just thank us for not just ignoring you!

The only person who really knows if a shot was a fluke or not is the person who took it. They could have meant a shot you think looks like a fluke.
This site is just for fun and not serious and if you're getting angry and think something should be done about flukes then you're probably taking things too seriously

06:24 Sat 19 Apr 08 (BST) [Link] I don't understand why forcing your opponent to nominate a pocket for a shot that wins the game would make it sterile. You are right about the tournament, however had you fluked the 9 and not other balls you would have won, so what's your point? becaue you didn't fluket he 9 we shouldn't have to nominate it? I don't know one decent player who would complain about the time it takes to respot the 9 because a player missed it in his intended pocket. Its SOOOO obvious that nominating the 9 would make the ENTIRE site better. There's not one REAL reason not to do it, except the hassle of updating
