You should have to nominate a pocket for the 9 ball. Its becoming common in 9 ball all around the world. I've just lost 25 points to some idiot becaue he fluked the 9 ball 7 STRAIGHT times. Likewise making the 9 from a combo should NEVER be considered running the rack becaue anyone can do it. People should actually have to make all the balls. An ape with a computer mouse could win at 9 ball until this happens. Its absolute idiocy. There's no use in even replying to this post unless you agree with me because this isn't my opinion its infallible FACT.

*yawn* cap this please....
been discussed time and again.

just to name a few.....
and every time this comes up, I always disagree because why nominate a hole?? If they fluke it, good for them. Maybe you shouldnt have played him 7 times!!
I dont like the idea....never have, and it will take a very good debater to get me to change my mind on it.
There is some good....but I dont see why we should change. I would rather see things like moving the balls manualy on the practice table and spinners idea of randomly been placed into a game....those ideas that change the site, not just a game.

a good debater??? what's the debate? fluking the 9 takes out the skill. Calling the pocket puts it back in. That's the gameball. If you can't make it in the hole you meant to you shouldn't win.

7 in a row doesn't sound like a fluke to me...

by 7 straight times- do u mean 3 times in 7 games he did a combo.....thats what ya results say anyway....personally i would prefer to have to nominate the 9ball but there have been many times when the luck has evened itself out for me so.....

NO WAY! Id never win..i only win on Flukes!

I think you just answered your own question ;)
The entire issue is that luck is allowed to play far too big role in 9 ball. Having to nominate a pocket would go a long way to remedy that.
If you feel luck is a welcome factor in the game, that's your opinion and one you are most welcome to have. Personally, I'd rather see it eliminated as much as possible, this being a good example in the right direction.

Sure doesn't. If he makes 7 hard shots in a row, that's probably skill. If he makes 7 impossible shots in a row, it's probably something else entirely.

So, here we have someone who has never fluked a shot at all. If this had been you, would you have been calling yourself an idiot? I think not! Why keep playing the same person then if it was annoying you so much. Lighten up matey, it's only a game. It's called funkypool incase you hadn't noticed - so who says the rules can't be slightly different?

In fact, a lot of players feel bad about winning on a fluke. For a lot of players, winning because you deserve it means a lot more than just winning ;)

A couple of years ago there was a fellow who often posted here who would have had a field day with someone who said what they were posting wasn't their opinion but was a fact...
However - to go back to what was said - fluking the 9 ball 7 times in a row takes exceptional skill. If you think it doesnt, try playing randoms shots all the time and post back here when you win 7 straight games.
In the meantime i'll go and organise to be cyrogenically frozen and thawed out when the post is made
Seriously, nominations exist in many other online games, and always interrupt the flow, learning curve, and general playability. However there is plenty more debate on the subject in the threads listed above.
And what if they fluke the 9 into the nominated pocket!?! An "Opponent loses" tickbox?

here in australia on tables where you dont need to nominate, people fluke sinking the 8 ball (we only really play 8 ball)
But when they do fluke it at a pub, the person who fluked it just buys another beer....
now I know you cant do that on funkypool but my point is that in the end, we are all friends again!
No one should ever hold a grudge on here because 'oh...he fluked it against me'
I agree with jan. Not many players feel good winning on flukes (me for one) but in the end, a win is a win and maybe you should play a little better and beat him before he gets onto the 8 or 9 ball!

it was a figure of speech mate. Im saying because I wont like the idea, it would take someone with excellent debating skills to 'switch me over'....figure of speech
OH! and anohter thing I just throught of....
What about all the other balls? if your going to make it so you have to nominate the 9 ball, then why not all the balls then? you know, combo's and that?
thats why i dont like the idea, you focusing on what hole your putting it in insted of planning ahead. Spinner points it out well with the learning curve and time factor.

It would sound like a contradiction in terms to label it a fluke at all if potting in the nominated pocket imo - so bit of a moot point really...
There's a massive difference between trying a hard shot and getting lucky enough to make it right, vs. missing the intended shot entirely and getting lucky in potting it elsewhere.
As for the game flow part - hard to argue against that... Nominating pockets adds an additional step to each shot, so obviously will be a bit more cumbersome game play. Whether or not to consider that a problem tho, is obviously debatable. One extra click to toggle the pocket you are aiming for hardly takes an iternity either, so you could see this both ways I guess.

It would obviously have to be the same for all balls, and the simplest implementation would be to merely click the pocket you want, then make your shot. Any balls you pot in the right pocket stay, any balls you pot elsewhere get reset.
As for the learning curve issues related to this - simply make it an additional game type, call it normal vs. pro 9 ball or whatever, and let people play their preferred system - problem solved.

Don't think it should be the same for all balls simply becaue the 9ball is the money ball. Ye I've fluked the 9 before, and I don't feel good about that either. Why should you have any pride in fluking a 9 ball. And if you don't have pride in a game winning shot then you shouldn't be given points for it.

If anyone could do it I'd have alot more than I do now
Na I wouldnt like to see the 9 ball nominated, takes the fun out of the game.
Me, I take the good (flukes) with the bad because I know 9 ball is a lucky game. So I know when I enter US9 I know flukes might happen either by me or the other player. Just have to deal with it
Maybe the UK/US 8 games have the black nominated

no, you cant just say 'only for the 9 ball'. If you have say...an easy 3-9 combo, thats exactly the same as only having the 9 ball left on the table.
Yes, the 9 abll is the money ball....but in these circumstances, it has to be all of them or none of them.
jan: i dont think it would be wise to have 2 seperate game types for nominating ect. They tried 'pro' games when they made the balls bigger and kept the 'pro' games in for the people who wanted the priginal funkypool/poolsharks.
sorry mate, in my opinion, it should either be all the balls or none of the balls!

Although you do contradict yourself, I could see it working in 8 US/UK. Although I do oppose to that idea as well, it would work far better with 8 ball US/UK because you cant mistakenly pot the 8 and win on a combo (like you can in 9 ball)
