Sorry some of us have to do 12 hour shifts

I can confirm that not a single answer since last time I posted is right.

Due to the unlikelihood of this going anywhere in the foreseeable future, I will post the answers.....you have all gave up guessing where people are and just started bumping anyway

= 1 Liverpool, Manchester United ? 44

3 Arsenal ? 39

4 Chelsea ? 24

= 5 Everton, Leeds, Tottenham ? 22

8 Wolves ? 19

9 Aston Villa ? 15

= 10 Newcastle, Ipswich ? 11

12 Nottingham Forest ? 11

= 13 West Brom, Burnley ? 9

= 15 Derby, Manchester City ? 8

17 Sheffield Wednesday ? 7

18 Blackburn ? 6

= 19 Blackpool, Bolton - 5

Someone else feel free to go, if I dont post one before you think of something as good as that

Chrelsea? 4th? Isn't their success only relatively recent????!??!

Man City only 8 Top 6 finishes?

Anyway, I'll have a go...

Why were there no semi-finals played in the 1873 FA Cup?

Chelsea 4th yeah, 24 top 6 finishes since the war, the top 6 isnt really a success thats why people were thrown by it!

They have always been hovering in the top half since before Roman tok over for as long as I remember lol!

And yeah City only have 8 top 6 finishes, never been much kop

Wiki them if you like, I havent checked it out, I trust the guy who gave me the question to have them right

There were no semi's in 1873 because nobody in Scotland could afford a taxi at the time, that was the second year of the cup i think and the one where they trialled the winners getting a bye to the final.
A Scottish side got to the semis, but couldnt afford to get down south to play it.......could be Rangers in a couple of years if Phil Gartside gets his way

lol - that's right, Queen's Park got a bye through every round cos they couldn't make it to England to play their games. When they qualified for the semi-finals, that was that, they had to be excluded. That was the only semi as Wanderers, defending champions, had a bye to the final.

It was the FA Challenge Cup, meaning the winners got a bye to next year's final and the others had to play off against each other to challenge them for the Cup. Wanderers were defending their title and played Oxford University, who got a walkover against Queen's Park in their semi-final. It finished 2-0 to Wanderers. Rumour has it that an Oxford pass was blown up for offside when the referee, a J Paxman, declared "Nooooooooooooooooo! That was 20 yards offside for heaven's sake!" The referee's great-grandson, a J Paxman, has been saying similar words to university teams ever since.

The following year, the rules were changed so that Wanderers had to partake from Round 1. Despite walkovers in Rounds 1 and 2, they encountered Oxford in round 3 and lost 1-0 after a replay. Oxford went on to win the cup.

Your go!

I am not 100% sure on the exact reason at the moment

I think its either Gary Lineker or Jimmy Greaves

Gary Lineker because he is second highest all time goal scorer for England or Jimmy Greaves because he was the all time highest England goalscorer until he was overtaken by the Bobby Charlton who went on to become THE highest goalscorer.
