If no-one's posted for ages then the new would-be leader doesn't need a post to follow his/her last post to take the lead.

If you post last and then no-one posts for a week, you can consider yourself in the lead, you don't need another post after yours to "ratify", as such, your new time.

Although the original thing I wrote back at the start was "if the lead is 2 days, and then Joe Soap someone (sic) posts and no-one replies for more then 2 days, then Joe Soap takes the lead", so was I wasting my time? Probably... although the example I gave afterwards was the opposite. Anyway, who cares!? Ireland won!!!
