Patrick... except he ain't Irish. He originated in either Scotland or Wales and was kidnapped by Niall of the Nine Hostages sometime in the 5th century. He lived for a while in slavery, feeding pigs in a farm in Muckish in Co Antrim. Sometimes he was so hungry he ate the pigs' food. Eventually he fled on a ship to Europe. Forget what happened next, but then he got the voice of God in a dream and he returned to Ireland to help propagate the word of God. Eventually he became a bishop, and then he died in 461. 432 was another great year for Patrick but I can't remember what happened.
Think I have that right, must research it.

It was actually called Slemish.
He didn't, he went home. But he eventually ended up back in Ireland. And I wouldn't think the language barrier woulda been much of a problem, as some strain of early Celtic would've been spoken in both Ireland and Britain back then. Till the Saxons (or someone) came and brought what's now called Old English with them to Britain. And then the Norman Conquest diluted English with French words (and nearly destroyed English also). And then a load of on-the-spot Latin derivatives were created by the dozen in the 16th and 17th centuries. And the Irish language in Ireland started to give way to English language, starting in the 1700s. But St Paddy woulda have found it swell.

Ya - Ned Maddrell was (apparently) the last native speaker of Manx. And in the 1940's, Irish Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Éamon de Valera paid a visit to the Isle of Man. Dev spoke Irish and Maddrell spoke Manx, and the two of thewm got along just fine.

Does this thread have to be anything specific to things you didn't know? Because I have one:
The sound of the girl being stabbed in the shower in the movie Psycho is actually, in fact, the sound of a knife stabbing a watermelon.
