I would like other members' opinions on the tactics you should employ if you find yourself in a snooker that is difficult to escape from.

1. Are you better off trying to escape from it and more than likely fail, and maybe set your opponent up to win the rack?

or

2. Play a deliberate foul in order to give your opponent the minimum advantage possible from having 2 shots.

Over to you...

Yeh edit this if possible mate. but a very good point you have brought up! Iv fouled to give the person the least advantage before because i knew there was no chance of me hitting my ball, although deliberate fouling in a real game means you forfiet the match i think, but that's the joy of funkypool, you can deliberate foul and golden brake!!!

Deliberate fouling is something called by the ref in a real match, but this os obviously impossible to recreate in a computer version.

In this sense, it becomes a "Funkypool Rule", so it one is as fair as the other.

Persoanlly, i'd rather see an opponent try the second option, as it makes for a more competitive game.

Either way the title of the thread is wrong, as it is far from cheating!

Yea spinner, i'd agree with the second one, more competitive then plus if they go for a "tricky" they could miss and mess up the positioning of your shots.

Thanks for the input so far.

The reason I titled the thread as "cheating" is because that is what I was accused of doing by preferring to employ my option 2.

I kinda figured that Jed. Truth is, other than using multiple accounts to gain rank, it is completely impossible to cheat on Funkypool.

You cant move the balls, block pockets or nudge the table.

You were accused of cheating for playing a more skillful shot than your oponent would have. Its that simple.

"Cheat" is what people type when they know you are WAY better than them, so remember for the future, its one of the biggest compliments you will ever get

Tactical fouling isn't against the rules so it certainly isn't cheating.

I always expect the better players to go for tactical fouls in dodgy UK8 situations.

It's not that sporting, but as Spinner said, it's a Funkypool rule, and so it's just part of the game.

The same thing applies in US9 too. Rather than attempt a match-risking escape, ppl push the 9ball to safety.

its just the same as cheating for me, as they are both playing immoraly. its just the same as when a player in football goes down holding his face from a lite touch or stays down after a soft tackle to win the foul or get the other chap sent of. its not against the rules but its still a disgrace.

just play the bloody game properly

Whats immoral about playing the game tactically?

Are you sayin playing tactically is cheating? Sometimes the best tactic is to pot an easy ball, are you saying thats cheating and immoral?

Hmmmmm

As for the footbal analogy, its jst like playing the offside rule to your advantage, not diving for a foul!

just play the bloody game properly.

You can't tell everyone how to play, everyones playing ability varies...you are basically telling them to stop playing their way...or the highway.

The only thing I would say is be prepared to get a bit of stick from this particular opponent if you play a deliberate foul.

I could understand it if he had lost to me - but he didn't!

When I’m snookered I’ll take into account my opponents skill level before I play the escape/tactical safety shot.

If it’s a seasoned pro I’ll look to place the ball in an area that makes them use up one shot, usually a snooker behind either players colour. On the other hand I might try a genuine escape if I think the chances of them clearing on the return are in the low percentages.

All that counts is the end result, and using a tactical shot here and there to make the win yours is 100% fair play in my book.
