Following on from the thread discussing steven_up's goal of 100-0...
Its been mentioned in other threads (by people who have lost usernames etc)
Seems that a stats reset function would be popular. No risk of losing your username, and the possibility to only reset rank on a certain game, or to leave other stats (tourney wins etc) intact.
Not to mention retaining account integrity for forum purposes etc.
This could be combined with the removal of the "Delete account" option to keep everything neater.

I would like to see the reset stat button in place as I've explained in other threads that it gives you an opputunity to reset a particular game type without deleting a whole user. I hope Nick looks at this and gives his views on the idea.

The reason why people are meant to have 1 username is so that the rating represents your ability. With the rating reset this would mean that several users would have ratings that are not based on their actual ability which is unfair to the players who have kept their original names.
A different way would be to have 2 seperate tables for your records.
1 would display your all time records (the one that users have now)
The other table would display recent records. This table could be reset when the user likes.
This would enable users to see how they have improved more recently, try to get 'the perfect start profile' kinda thing, or just see how many wins they get in a row.

With something like this in place it would reduce the incentive for players to create 2nd usernames and players would not have to worry about their names being stolen as they would never have to delete.
It also means that people who like to brag about their records would still be showing how many games they've played to acheive it, so tread can be happy

The problem you point out Tread is exactly what this should cure.
At the moment accounts are effectively completely reset, leading to things like my thinking steven_up was a complete newbie last night before my brain woke up!
Nice post squeezy, this shouldn't be a big issue coding wise so hopefully Nick will take it on board when he's finished moving!

I've PM'd twice since i mentioned this thread on another here, so here it is easier to find, and quite appropriate given todays spate of multi-using and anaconda's recent proof that this facility already exists....

Next patch will have a reset stats option for you to all "enjoy".
11:14 Tue 31 Oct 06 (GMT) [Link]
Do you mean we will be able to reset them our self.
11:54 Tue 31 Oct 06 (GMT) [Link]
Thats cool Nick
I assume this will also mean the end of the delete facility?
I hope there will be some stat which is fixed, like an overall rank and/or win percentage.

To pick up on squeezys point of representing ability. This is generally true in regards to your ranking. Although, wins and loses do not represent you ability. Many players starting out maybe have, for example a 75% loss and a 25% win rate. This may run for a high number of games leading to a very large number of losses. By the time a player begins to level out at a decent ability his win/loss percentage may reach 50/50. Thus it would take a huge amount of games to reach an overall win/loss of 50 to 50. Depnding on how fast you learn. Its true it depends on the standard of your opponants. But in general it is not an accurate depiction of skill.

Thats very true Scaley, and was the reason it was suggested before that win percentage etc only "kick in" when newbie status is up..
Personally, i'd like to see an overall rank. A ranking that applies to all games, which cant be reset...
However, i know thats very awkward to impliment! Having win percentage run from the start without being able to be reset would be the next best (and simplest) option...

Hey spinner, what's the problem with deleting accounts? There does need to be some way for the member to remove his details / terminate service.
Is the problem because of the forum?

Well untidyness of the forum is a part of it, but it would also stop people making snap decisions and/or leaving themselves open to "identity theft".
I thought it woudl be better to have a stats-reset option (as is coming ) combined with the auto-deleting of inactive accounts after, say, a year.
Therefore if someone doesn't want to play, they simply stop, and have a year to change thier mind without losing thier achievements, or thier username.

If you delete your account you run the risk of losing your name, that is the risk. Don't delete and stay loyal then no one will have the chance to nick your account!

My point exactly K3v!
Ok, here's something to think about regarding the re-setting of rank and my point about having an overall rank which is fixed.
One of the main reasons for having a stats-reset option rather than deleting, is so that you maintain your record and people can see how experienced a player you are.
Obviously, someone who resets thier rank wont be a newbie, and therefore if they beat another player, the amount of rank gained/lost will be much greater than it is now with the newbie reduction.
I can see a few "heated" comments about this appearing!
However, if each player had an ongoing overall rank, this is what should be used for the gain/loss ratio calculation, thus keeping in line with actual ability.

As you quoted yourself:
it would also stop people making snap decisions and/or leaving themselves open to "identity theft".
Removing the ability to delete, means its not possible, and when the stats reset option is in place, there is no reason left to delete!
Thats the point! (or at least part of it...) LOL!
